I think if you use the FFR without donor parts you will spend more $$ than you will on the Unique. I went through the same exercise and I'm glad I built the Unique. I'm also sure if you ask this...

Phil the tape method works great. I didn't explain it very well so - You apply the tape to the cockpit edges with about 1 1/2 inches sticking up above the body - that forms a dam that keeps the water...
I saw this tip over on CC and it works great. Use 3" wide masking tape around the cockpit area to keep water from running in.
