    Heater Hose Bracket

I didn't like the heater hose just hanging from the heater to the block so I made a little bracket. I will mount it on the top of the foot box and run the hoses through it. I'll let you guys know how it works. You can just see the hose connection near the distributor.

BTW - NOT a Cobra. Do not believe the valve covers.

Heater.....heater- you have a heater?? I drove my car 1.5 hours home from a Vintage Auto Racing Association function at Willow Springs a couple of weekends ago in 28 degree darkness. No top, no side curtains, no heater. Man, you should seen some of the out-takes I got from people I passed that night cruising north through the Mojave desert. Sure wished I hadn't been so cheap then! I had a smile for two days just because I couldn't move any muscles in my face though. Looks nice a nice braket. There are some obviously some talented fabricators in our group. Nice set-up.

Thanks Phil ! I question the talent part [8]. I made the thing from the some flat stock I purchased at Home Depot. The tools I used - a vise, drill, 1 1/4" hole saw, hack saw and file. I'll polish it after I get the final shape right. I have no idea where the gromets came from I found them in a box.

The heater is mostly for my significant other half.

Bracket looks great! Could you post a pic that shows the entire heater hoses from the motor pick up and return?

Okie I'll be happy to after I figure out exactly how I'm going to make the hook up. I think the outlet on the water pump will feed into the lower line (one with the flow valve) and the other line into the manifold. It looks to me like I have two options, one on the carb side behind the thermostat and the other on the thermostat housing. Got any ideas.

Looks really good. I still am looking for the pic that is simular to the pic of your first pic but a little more wide angle, to see how the hoses bend towards the front of the engine. Also, being a fellow anal detail kind of guy, you might want to take a dremmel cut-off wheel and trim off the excess hose clamp tail.

I thought one of the heater hoses was supposed to connect to the intake just behind the water neck.

Okie those clamps will be history next week. I use the stacked washer type, you can see them on the radiator hoses in the previous pics. I hate those little cheap ones with the flap of extra band. I will probably spend the winter detailing little things and making a few more. I just finished cutting the rough pieces for the sholder belt trim rings.

Patrick that is the question I have been trying to get answered. You can see in my pic that the temp sending unit is in that spot. I can move the temp unit to the other side and use that hole. I don't know what the implications of using the hole on the other side of the thermostat.

Here is an old pic (pre-trimmed hose clamps!) of the engine side of the heater hoses. I had to move the temp sending unit to the other side. It makes no difference to the ending unit.

<img src=images/icon_speech_ugh.gif border=0 width=23 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Ugh> Damn, am I glad I live in a climate where a heater isn't required. I have a hard enough time getting my big mits in to tight spots. With all those hoses, I would be flat out of luck!

Although it looks like you have done one fine job with your project.

Here's a shot of the manifold connection on a 427SO. The fitting is as original and is available from Finishline.

Here's a shot of the waterpump connection. It's just a 5/8" nipple x 1/2"NPT connector available in most parts stores.

Here's a shot of the water temp sensor. As you can see, I haven't got the wiring completed yet.

And last, here's a shot of the heater connections.

    Hope this helps.

All small block setups I have seen have the sending unit on the drivers side. The supply side of the heater is attached to the intake just behind the water neck. The heater return line is the lower fitting on the water pump. There is a bypass hose between the upper pump fitting and the thermistat housing.

I have a heater but never thought of putting it in. Car is plenty hot without it. My right foot gets real hot and the headers are taped but my foot boxes are bare fiberglass with a little insulation inside. On cool days I just open the vent holes and I get plenty of heat.

    Patrick or Randy,
Could you provide a pic of the way you've always seen the heater hooked up on a sb. In my ignorance, I hooked mine up the way I did. I works fine but I would like to see how it's supposed to be.

Okie I spent 2 hours today collecting what I thought I needed to finish the hook up but ooops. My manifold has some funky threaded holes or I'm dumber than I look. I was going to move the temp probe to the other side but discovered I need a different bushing than the one in the manifold. Then realized the hose connection I have is 3/8 npt x 5/8 barb. [B)]. I did find a neat 90 degree 5/8" hose to make the turn from verticle to horizontal.

I'll take all of the plugs and bushings with me tomorrow and try and figure out what I need or just do without a heater If yours works then it is right.

    Randy,
Been there, done that - thinking that I could use the fittings that come with the heater kit on the manifold. Different thread size.
