The temp sensor should screw into the drivers side without any bushings. The hose fitting, on the passenger side, protrudes into the water flow about 1 1/2". I have a good photo of a recent project. It's on the home computer so I'll post it when I'm home in a couple of hours.

BTW - Vintage Air sells a nice looking (polished) low profile 90 degree 5/8" barb to 1/2" NPT adapter.

Thanks I'll check out the 1/2 x 5/8". I started inatalling the temp probe on the drivers side but it didn't feel right I'll try again tomorrow.

Okie here are a few pics of my trial fit, still need to cut some and make sure I can access everything before I tighten the screws. I got the 90 hose to give me clearance over the fuel line and to offset the hose for easy valve cover removal.

Looks good Randy. Your hooking into the manifold in the same place I did.

New problem here on the fittings. I got the heater hose worked out and went to install the water temp probe on the drivers side. Looks like a different thread in the manifold than the probe - damn ! Anybody run into this problem? The original hookup had a bushing but the hole on the other side is smaller.

Sorry the picture is a little out of focus. It has been over 2 years since I installed my temp probe. I can’t recall if the threaded sleeve that the temp probe fits into, came with the temp sending unit or if I got the sleeve from a local hardware store. I was surprised to see the connector that you used (that comes with the heater kit) to hook into the manifold. That connector had a different thread size than the threads on my manifold and I couldn’t use it.

Okie Thanks! The heater conection is a 1/2" npt x 5/8 barb. The temp probe was in a 1/2 x what I thought was 3/8 npt bushing. I took the plug out of the other side of the mainfold and it looked to be a 3/8 npt but the probe seems to be a different thread. It screws in but is loose and doesn't look like it will seal.

Now that I recall, I did have to re-tape (Teflon tape)it because I did get a slight the first time I started up the motor after hooking everything up.

Oh the fun I could have with that. Nice bracket, wish I had known, I would have grabbed a chair and watched you work for once.

The adapters come with the sending unit if it's a Stewart-Warner.

I have the adapter for the right side (passenger) which is a 5/8 npt. The trouble is when I move it to the left side the hole is a 3/8 npt and the probe is slightly smaller. I need a 3/8 npt bushing the will accept the probe.

I agree with Eliminator. My sensor is a Stewart Warner and it came with both adapters in the box.

Guess I need to find the other bushing. A drill won't help - the hole is already 3/8' npt which is larger than the probe.

I may just hope for a short warm winter.
