Wiper blades

My wiper blades are the same length each side of the arm. Or in other words the arm mounts in the middle of the blade. But when the blade travel all the way over to the passenger side (vertical) about 1" + of the blade is down over the bottom of the windsreen frame. Any one else have this issue?

That said, I dunno exactly why anybody ever put wipers on these things - I've used mine once and discovered first-hand that they wipe about 35% of the windshield area...meaning it was more productive to just peer over the top off the windshield than it was to try and peek thru the wiped area.

Plus - I think the wipers would be more effective if they were on the inside of the windshield than on the outside. [:P]

Oh, and one more thing - swap the direction of run, Rick. By this I mean when the motor cycles all the way over to the passenger side, the wiper blade should be resting on the bottom edge of the frame. At rest the blades should be pointing to the passenger side of the car instead of the driver side of the car.

This'll help. Just don't expect 'em to do much either way.

What finish is on the Anco part #s in the Assy. manual? Are they black or are they polishable???

Brent...the finish on the Anco arms and blades is S.S....yeh you can polish them, thats about all they are good for...decoration.
Just use lots of rain-X on the screen, then the water droplets will come over the top of the screen and hit you in the forehead.

If you fit one of them bug deflector thingies to the front of the car you won't have that problem

The rain-x works better than the wipers, but also carry a tiny squeegy to clean off the inside of the windshield too

Rain-x is a wonderful product. I once drove since months in my daily driver with no wipers. Just rain-x.

But that is beside the point. The car has wipers and I want them to be correct. Use them or not. So, that is the path I am persuing!

Rain-X does rock! I have it on all my vehicles and rarely use more than the intermittent setting. And, the wipers on our Cobras are ONLY good for decoration. I don't even bother turning them on. Jim's bug deflector idea would work much better......LOL. Brent, with all that chrome, polished alum. and ss. are you really going to drive it in the rain......sounds like a half a day job to just clean up after that......LOL.

On my drivers side wiper it runs of the windshield and will actually hit the painted part of the body. There were at leasr two gears used in the old wiper assemblies one large and one small. It takes the small one, I have the large one. I know of this on one more Unique car. So this Winter I am going to pull the assembly out on the drivers side and replace it with the smaller gear. Pain in the rear but it has to be done. I noticed when I was at Unique in October they are now using all new Wiper Assemblies, motors, ect. Good for new car owners from here on out.

Turnpikeboy, how do I change the park to be on the right?

Eliminator, mine does exactly as you describe. How can I tell which gear I have and where to I get the correct one? Have a part number?

Plus, my wiper arms are a painted grey. While I am at it, I would like to put some nice ones on there. Recommendations? Remember that my car is 20 years old so it is not the latest parts.

I still need answers to the questions above but I did get some part numbers from 'mama Gean'! Blade is Anco 20-01 and arm 4101. The car she was looking at has the wiper parked on the drivers side. If I change where is it parked I would imagine that would change the part numbers. I really don't care which side it is parked on I just want it to stop tearing up the paint and work!

You can adjust them to run either way, I park them to the drivers side but have seen some to the pass side. It takes some adjusting on both the arm angle and the length to get them right, take your time and try not to scratch the paint.

I have made the suggestion before but here it is again use masking tape to protect the paint while experimenting. If you are like me you also use a cotton towel taped down.

Rick...you got the Anco part numbers correct.
I checked my 16 year old Unique assembly manual ( 5 Xerox pages )
My Anco units have an adjusting screw on them so that the actual
wiper blade can be moved independantly of the arm.
So if the arm is in anywhere close to the right angle for parked
wipers, the blade can be adjusted a bit so that it does not ride
over the chrome of the windscreen.
Not withstanding all that good stuff, the wipers are decoration only.
The blades on my car are 16 years old...will I change them...no..
they never get used.

Does any one know where I can get a polished set of arms for a left hand or drivers side park? I have seen them for the righ hand or passenger side park but not the other way around. To late on the paint unfortuniatly. Beleive it or not, I actually use the wipers! And of course LOTS of RainX!

Still searching! I have come to find out the the MGB parked to the right and the Midget parked to the left for some reason.

Here is an interesting site on how to change the park, get them to park, service them, the big and little gears, wire them, etc, etc.

Moss has a stainless arm and blade for the midget and I have a call into them to confirm that it is left hand park. The MGB arm, aside from parking on the wrong side for me, Is a good deal longer than the ones I have, about 2" longer.

I placed an order with Moss Motors for arms and wipers from a midget. They sound just right. Both are polished stainless and park on the left. I will let you know!

The arms from Moss did not work, to long. I faxed them a photocopy of my existing arms but they never came through. So I emailed the photocopy to www.europaspares.com. They got back to me in a day. Polished stainless steel arms and blades, adjustable length to! For right hand park. Arms are U71300 and 9" blade is B05109. 35.24 pounds. They also had the lucas replacement switch for the fan override for 6.73 pounds that I needed. I will let you know once they arrive!

They worked beautifully! I had to add a little more angle where they met the blade but once adjusted they worked great and looked very nice. The park perfectly don't hit the windscreen nor body. Since they are adjustable, I probably could have gone with a 10 or even 11" blade. Oh well, next time.
