    Hydraulic throwout bearing

    Remove the four 5/16 bolts that hold the front seal assy.
    Remove the seal assy. and expose the front bearing.



    The throwout bearing has the lines already installed. The bottom line is the feed line and the top line is used to bleed the bearing just as you would bleed brakes.


    The back side of the bearing assy. reveals a machined slot that allows oil to drain back into the transmission case. This goes DOWN when the assy is installed.


    Next put a small bead of RTV on the flange area and install the throwout bearing with NEW ARP bolts.


    The bearing is now installed and ready to go back in the car. If you attach a string to the end of the lines it really helps pull them through the bellhousing and out the clutch fork hole.



    The bearing assy. is custom made for you by Mcleod. You can NOT buy one of these used and just stick it in. you can send it back with YOUR dimensions and have the correct piston installed.

    When you order the assy. they will ask you what depth you have to the clutch activating arms. This could be a long style (three finger) or a diaphragm.

    My particular clutch is a Ram Long Style



    This is how to measure the depth. Use a good straight edge and a caliper or a ID mic. They will want the EXACT measurement to the .001. The throwout bearing is built in a range of .100 to .300 of an inch. It is self adjusting and will compensate for clutch wear.



    When installed you have two braided lines exiting the bellhousing and thats it. Clean and neat. Do not be afraid of them. Set it up right and drive it.

    They are not all made that way. The ones they have sending Unique have an adaptor that slides over the stock bearing retainer and the bearing it's self screws onto it. You set the clearence by turning the bearing in or out. We got one like the one you have and the drain back hole was machined to far down and would let trans fluid leek down the front of the trans.

    The Hyd Throw-out Bearing for the small input shaft top loader is made as you described.
    The HTOB for the big input shaft top loader is made like Brent's pictures.
    I will post the pictures of the other style.
    The small input throw out bearing lets you adjust the bearing to the measurement. It has a threaded section that screws in or out to adjust the bearing. The front assembly stays on the transmission and the bearing slips over it, the hyd. lines keep the bearing from turning.
