    front cross member

Well i thinking of putting a bigger pull fan in. But the cross member wont allow it. What the procedure in removing it. I would like to do what Bret did with his. Take it out and have a metal shop fabricate it. Any ideas? thanks Pat

    Pat,
I am guessing that you are talking about a front sway bar...Ralph had one custom made by Hellweg, but it was spendy. ($600?) I need one like this too, and was thinking of giving them a call if I could find a couple folks that were interested so we could go after lower pricing.

Interested, and if so, what's the spending cap?

You can search for Ralph's thread for more details...

If you find out where Brent had his bent, please let me know!

Save yourself the trouble and install this slimline fan:

You won't need to modify the sway bar (not front cross member), and it's covered in a lot of threads here. Do a search on SPAL FAN.

My car must have something different than what the rest of you have. The front and rear sway bars are straight shafts that attach to separate arms that are linked to the suspension. I don't have a picture of the front but you can see one end of the rear one in this picture. The front one is the same but with a different diameter shaft. I thought this might give you an idea for another option.

This is not the greatest picture of the sway bar, but you can see it just behind the SPAL fan. There are other much better pictures on the forum by doing a search on SPAL Fan.

This might help as well. A SPAL slimline fits perfect [^]

Agreed, the SPAL slimline is the best way to go. If you have an older car, however, the sway bar is even closer to the radiator. We have well under 2", will the slimline still work? According to the SPAL website, the clearance is 1.8". Is this correct?

Rod, it looks like your sway bars have different attachments, but the torsion still occurs through a twisting bar. Correct?

    Brian,

According to the diagram I have and what is one this website, the maximum depth is 2.05". Mine fits but it is snug.

    Brian,

The fan is 2.05" deep, and the clearance between it and the sway bar is about 1/8 inch as Phil sad.

Brian, your correct, the outer arms are splined onto the torsion bar. If the whole setup needed to be moved the arms could be modified without damaging the torsion bar itself.

I am thinking of running my car without the front fans. Do you guys think that running just the SPAL will be enough to cool the car?

I put the Spal(push) fan in. Left the two (puller) fans in nose. Wired them together, same dash toggle switch, but don't forget to change the 15 amp fuse to 20 amps.
    Works great!

The Spal puller I have is 2700 cfm and for my high compression FE works great, but to put it in I had to design a new sway bar. I have the Spal on its own toggle switch. I kept the pushers up front for looks and rarely use them, they also are on their own toggle. I don't trust the thermostatic switch as I have had them to fail in other cars. So "belt and suspenders"

    GeorgiaSnake,

Do you only have the SPAL on your FIA, and if so how is it cooling in the summer?

    Ralph,
What color of red is your car, and do you have any more pictures?
