427 S/C with a Big Block FE
Yes, it is true.
I have all mine covered on the inside from the header area up around the foot boxes and under the fenders.
The FE engine produces a lot of heat and it comes right up off the headers in the collector area.
After several years you will start seeing the fibers appear under the paint, it will no longer be a smooth straight surface.
This can happen with other engine combinations and the 289 body style as well. It just may take longer.
Under my engine compartment aluminum foot boxes and firewall is also a layer of high temp insulation.
