    Reflective Heat Mat question

During some discussions with other replica (non-Unique) owners, I overheard the suggestion that we should put heat-reflective mat on the insides of the front fenders, basically right above the headers. Because it's on the undersides of the tops of the fenders, it couldn't be seen unless you stuck your head down inside the engine compartment.

The reasoning was that, over time, the excessive heat rising up from the headers will cause deformities in the tops of the front fenders right in that area. My question is: is this true?

    427 S/C with a Big Block FE

    Yes, it is true.
I have all mine covered on the inside from the header area up around the foot boxes and under the fenders.
The FE engine produces a lot of heat and it comes right up off the headers in the collector area.
After several years you will start seeing the fibers appear under the paint, it will no longer be a smooth straight surface.
This can happen with other engine combinations and the 289 body style as well. It just may take longer.
Under my engine compartment aluminum foot boxes and firewall is also a layer of high temp insulation.

    Thumbs up

    Ditto again!

I have seen the fiberglass strands push up and ruin the paint over the header area of the fenders.

But.......... Rick, Ralph, and I are "anal".

It will probably cost about 25.00

Thanks for the insight guys...Not sure I would have thought of that and we plan to be installing the insulating mat pretty soon. (The body work is coming along nicely!)
