    Spal Fan Mount

These are some pictures of the Spal Fan Mounting brackets I used on Juan's 289 car. Used the upper bracket that has been discussed on here before. This fan mount is made from aluminum and comes with the mounting hardware. I used the top mount then made my own bottom mount that worked out really good. The bottom fan mount does two things, it replaces the 2 steel brackets that hold the radiator in place, and gives you a good lower fan mount. The lower mounts are much lighter than the 2 steel brackets they replaced.

You can purchase the mount I used. Brent found this bracket and there is a thread about the mount and where to puchase. I will do a search and see if I can find it.

i have less than 1/8" clearance between the fan motor and the sway bar. will i be able to mount the fan to an alumrad bracket and not have contact with the radiator and the nuts and bolts used to mount fan to bracket

If you have the large 2700 cfm Spal fan it will not fit. I had to have my sway bar changed to mount the large fan. The 2700 cfm fan is 2.78" thick. The trimline style low cfm fan is only 2.05" thick.

    Brent,

I just got a set of your brackets from Kelly, and I am about to take the radiator out and get the fan installed. How exactly does the bracket need to be bent and our there any measurements I need to be aware of? Also do I need a brake to bend the aluminum or will a 2X4 work?

Justin, the radiator in a 289 car is shorter than a 427 so his measurments won't work.

The top bracket is bent in a 90 and screwed to the radiator mount on top. The aluminum trim piece that covers the hood hinge then covers that part of the bracket. After you mount the top you will install the lower mount on the fan and let it hang below the radiator mount. Remove the L shaped lower radiator mounts and mark the aluminum fan mount so it is even with the lower radiator mount. Remove the lower fan mount and cut it on your mark. Install the bracket back on the fan and then install the radiator mount brackets. They actually clamp the lower fan mount in place.

I do not think you can get a clean sharp bend with a 2X4 on aluminum that thick.

No, the mount easily installs with the radiator in.

I noticed you had the rubber mounts on the fan. Do they rub against the radiator fins? Mine did and I took them off. I also noticed one of your fan blades has a small clip on the end closest to motor. Mine did to and I figured it was something used to balance blades.
