    Air Cleaner

Once again Maurice and Alan helped me out of a jam. My car has a Windsor with a Super Victor intake, which is about 5/8 of an inch taller than the Victor Jr. I wasted a lot of time ordering drop base air cleaners from Jegs, and when I got fed up I finally called Unique to see if they knew of anything that would work.
As usual, they did. What was suggested is a unit from AFCO racing products with a 1 1/2 drop base. Bottom line, it works, and I am very happy that I found an air cleaner that will fit on this intake with a three inch filter.
I know there are a lot of guest on this site that are doing their research on what Cobra to buy, and I can tell you that the 25+ years of experience the Weaver family has becomes an even greater value when you start the build process.

    AFCO is a great place.
    They also make Dynatech exhaust.
About 5 minutes from my house.

    Post pics if you would.

    Thanks

What is the clearance between the top of carb and top of air cleaner inside?
Have any pictures? I had to make my own to fit a 3" filter.

    Bob,
I took the day off tomorrow to work on the car, so I will take some pictures. There is at lest 2 inches of clearance above the carb. The top of the air cleaner is dome shaped and clears the top of the scoop by about half an inch.

That is identical to the one I got from BSR. Gave up on the little S&H.

Justin - what model cobra do you have and what type carb. If it's a holley,
does the air cleaner wabble on the float intake screw? What is AFCO? And what is the diameter?

    Bob,
I have the FIA model, but Maurice and Alan both told me that hood clearance is the same on both models.
The assembly is 14 inch diameter, and the base does not hit the float bowl screws on my carb, which is a Mighty Demon. The bottom is designed with a seal that fits very snug over/around the top of the carb which allows clearance of the screws. If you are running a Vic Jr, the air cleaner will clear by a country mile (in cobra terms). In fact if you are not running a spacer you could get away with a 3/8 spacer on your intake.
Edelbrock's catalog shows the Vic Jr. to be 5.75in tall and the super Vic Jr at 6.25in tall

    Bob,
It is a little hard to find on there website, go to any of the catalogs and do a search for aircleaner. They also have a model with a K&N top, I think mine was around $45.
I hope to see you at homecoming this year, I enjoyed meeting you last year and really like your car.

That looks like the one. They also make one that has the X-treme lid on top as well.
