Chapter 20 - Stuff We Have Been Avoiding...

Brian here, logged in as my dad since I am still out of photo space!

Again it has been a while since I have posted, and progress is slow but steady on the Legendary Spence Car. As shown in one of the shots below we did get a little drive time on the Cobra, albeit sans doors, hood, trunk, windshield, passenger seat, good sense, etc. I can only imagine how much fun it will be appropriately trimmed out!

Since then we have had a bit of a setback - sometime in mid-August we had a critical engine failure that we traced back to the spark box. Accel says that their failure rate is something line 0.01 percent, but I guess we're just lucky. We had driven the car and were swapping drivers in front of the house when the car just died. Of course we thought the worst, but it turns out it was a plain old electronics meltdown. After minor heartburn Accel warranty replaced the part and we're reinstalled ready for action.

With the car down for the count temporarily, we plum ran out of good reasons to continue avoiding a few pain-in-the-you-know-what jobs that had managed to evade our priority list: the radiator aluminum and the door strikers. In true fashion to this whole project, we have re-engineered both of these from the original kit, and while the pace has been slow, the results have turned out pretty darned good. See pics 1-3 below.

We also managed to knock out the final wiring of our underhood EFI harnesses using some really slick high-temp braided wrap. It's nice, looks good, is flexible and not much more than the plastic loom. See pic 4.

Following Ralph's lead, I also installed a pair of Hella Supertone horns under the hood. WOW are those loud! There will be no doubt that they will be heard over the side pipes. In the same picture you can also see our stainless radiator lines as well, they turned out pretty nice.

Overall progress has been steady, and I will go on record to say that THIS CAR WILL BE AT HOMECOMING 2008! We're starting our checklist now so that we will be ready with at least 1 or 2 days to spare!

Thanks for all the ongoing support!
