Viking Blue 289 #2899527 is HOME!

    We're Back!!!

After a 13 hour drive from Houston we arrived in Gadsden about 7PM Sunday night. Stayed at the Comfort Inn. We got up early to be at Unique at 8am on Monday morning. Met Jean first, then Alan and Maurice! Saw them put the finishing touches on my baby!

Like ya'll said it was really something to see it in person for the first time. Lance Rath my racing partner went with me and he could finally see what I had been telling him about the quality of the Unique cars and the friendliness of the entire Weaver family. We met most all the staff there and were given the tour...took a lot of pictures which I will post some later.

Packed up everything in our trailer and departed at 12noon on Monday. We had planned on driving about 1/2 way and spending the night and then driving in the rest of the way today. Well I got antsy and wanted to press on so that I could get things unloaded, etc. today...so we drove straight through again, arriving in Houston at 2AM this morning. Needless to say I am just a little tired...not as young as I used to be and don't re-cooperate nearly as quick.

But the BEAUTY is tucked away safely in my garage for now. I'm going to review the CD on finishing it out and probably start this weekend...if I can wait that long!

Can't wait to get it finished and break it in so that we can take it to Home Coming this year.

Thanks again to all for the kind words and stories of your deliveries.

Sounds like you will have many sleepless nights if not early mornings.
I would wake up at 3AM and go out in the garage. Work on the car then go to work. Lots of fun.

    Talking

Sounds familiar Tony very early mornings and very late nights. That is why in my next garage build I am adding an entertainment/sitting area for my wife. No Kidding!

welcome to the big family, all this bunch has a trove of good experience you can call on. Pushed little red machine out of garage by hand sunday afternoon, talked Zach into riding with me, hit switch, fuel pump run a while, and starter, boom she lit up, high idle, warmed--kinks out of throttle and away we went, off to I-20, west bound, altima, atlanta written all over it, hammer lane, third gear and we were even--slipped into fourth 95 mph and now altima is fading in mirror, slowed a bit and ran with traffic, altima is roaring along now 90 and about all he has or is willing, so worked brakes some to warm up--knock rust off, and back to the barn thru. heflin slowly 3rd gear, don,t want to wake the man up, Zach delivered and then back to garage--gosh what a ride.Zach has front brakes all apart on silver 289--he and Rick Dorman are into technical brake-wilwood stuff--above my education--will pay attention though, cause may have to work on little red machine one day. There you have it, an episode in the day of a fascinating machine. Will,

Want a nice ride you just treated me too! I can't wait until I get mine to the point where I can go out for a little cruise!

I'm sure that I am going to have a ton of questions for the group and look forward to communicating with everyone.

    Regards,

    Terry

    Terry,
Congratulations on getting your baby home and beginning the finishing touches to your roadster. Now get-er-done, but don't hurry anything along and don't take any short cuts that you'll probably have to re-do before you're satisfied with the finished product. Don't ask me how I know

    Jim,

Thanks for the input! I know what you mean as I have rushed projects in the past and have regretted it!

I plan on making this one my best build to date!

Being a new "authorized dealer/assembler" I want to make sure it is done correctly as it will be my demo!

    Terry

    Terry,

Are you sure about the chassis number? I though all of the 289 cars started with 289xxxx for cars that have seven digit numbers.

    Pat,

You are right! When I first listed it I made a typo on the number.

I couldn't figure out how to change the header.

My signature at the bottom of my post have the correct numbers!

Well it is finally on the ground and we set the ride height this evening. I am going to "test drive it" tomorrow and then take it over to get it inspected. I am sorting some more "build pictures" to post and then some "finished pictures" after that.

    IT LIVES!

I drove it for the first time today and everything worked as it should. No big surprises, bumps or bangs!

As a matter of fact I drove it to the state inspection station and it passed with flying colors...which we knew it would! It is now inspected as a 1964 Ford Cobra 289 Roadster!

Can't wait to get it out on the road soon.
