    Avon Tires

While traveling on business this week I stopped in at Sasco Motorsports in VA and picked up my new tires. I have to say I am impressed with the compound these tires are made from. DOT rating and 150mph rating, I will keep you posted when I have a chance to drive my car. I hate the winter!

    Question Avon

    Scott,

What sizes did you get....I looked into them and the front tire size was great but there was an issue with the rear tire size (best I remember not a 60 series).

But, yes, Avon is a great tire, have run them on the H-D with no problems.

    Rick,

The tires are front 245/60/15, Rear 295/50/15.

    Just as I thought

Personally I just don't like the 50 series on the back, similar to the YOKO's in the 295 series.

Sure wish they had a 275, 60 series for the rear. Just like the larger diameter for the rear.

Guess I will have to pursue the Goodyear, not street legal tires.

    MT tires

While on this subject has anyone ever used or considered the MT Sportsman S/R's?

The 26X12R15 is supposed to fit for the 295/50/15 with the 26X10r15 replacing the 245/60/15 they are approx .5 and .75 inches wider though, any fitment problems with this?

Alan, Side walls are stamped and lettered exactly the same on both sides, no white letters, strictly black walls and very sticky. Estimates from other posts on club cobra show a life of about 10,000 miles in a street/track usage. But i guess that depends on how you drive.

I am considering these tires myself.

Right now I am running 295/50-15 and 235/60-15 Firestone Firehawk Indy 500s.

the Avons I considered as well but I really like the looks of the Goodyear "billboards"

The Goodyears do look great but what sold me was a radial over a bias ply. Prior to considering the Avon's I was looking at the hoosier street TD's part numbers 44315 and 45190 also a good choice but in a bias ply as well.

    Master,
Any update on how you like these Avon tires ? I'm thinking about buying a set but would like to know a little more about them before I spend that kind of money.

    Thank you in advance,
    Charlie

I like the Avons, I have had them for about two years now and they have held up fine. Basic driving of 2-3 thousand miles per year with 2 (3) day track events mixed in and still good tread left. They are a soft compound though, they like to pick up "things" from the road. In a perfect world I would like a second set of rims so I could run the BFG's on the street and the Avon's on the track. Maybe that is a Christmas idea?
