    Mustang update

I have had a lot of e-mails about the Mustang so here are the latest pics.
I put this in Chit Chat so it would not show up in the Unique build section.

After the car was completely assembled, motor trans, etc. I took it to a friends shop to have a mandrel bent stainless exhaust fitted. We notched the frame so it would hug the car. He did a great job and it can not be seen when the car is on the ground. The rear of the exhaust had to go under the rearend because the car sits so low and the back seat remained stock.

These cars are horrible for body fit and finish. Nothing lines up and the front fenders only use one bolt on the bottom. We added tabs and more bolts and using a 10' straight edge were able to line everything up. Some of the body mods are:
    welded cowl vents shut
welded rear rollpan and smoothed to the body
smoothed the textured finish on all interior sheetmetal
chassis and front suspension completely smoothed
    firewall and inner fenders smoothed
radiator support smoothed and opened for a large aluminum radiator
dash pad removed, all dash holes welded shut and smoothed
dash insert made to hold 5" Autometer tach and speedo and 5-2 5/8" gauges and a/c vents
steel hood with glue on GT350 style scoop, added to the front sides of the scoop and smoothed like a 289FIA car. Did not want a fiberglass hood on this car.
all rocker holes welded and smoothed
rocker to quarter seam welded shut and smoothed
side vent scoop holes on quarters welded shut
top quarter to rear deck seams welded and smoothed

There are more but that gives you an idea. It is insane how long it takes to just get the body lines right.

    Thanks guys !!!
Hope to see you guys in May!!

Nice Brent, very nice. the gap between the hood and top of fender on my '72 looks like the mississippi delta. I appreciate the effort going into fit and finish.

    Thumbs up thanks

    Thanks

Eddie, I think it will take about a year after I get it back from paint to be finished with only nights and Sundays off and the girls in fast pitch softball all summer and fall. I have had the car 3 1/2 years so no big deal.

Hey Phil, It is now at the painters so the large shop you see is not mine. Everything I did was in my attached garage at home. My wife hated it.

Ralph, I had a '71 Mach 1, 351 Cleveland, White with black stripes. My dad bought it wrecked when I was 14. We rebuilt the entire dog house, engine, trans, front end etc. and painted it in the garage. Later put that body on a full chassis and raced it for a few years. A guy in Owensboro KY still races it. Robbinshkr probably remembers that car?????

The color of the car receives it's inspiration from Kelly Mullins and Hooters. (-:
    Any guesses?

Brent - that is way too easy. Does the color start with the letter "O"? Looking forward to the finished product

Man, I just knew Kelly was a bad influence!

By the way, how is he and Jodina, anyway? Anyone heard from them? I spoke with him last fall the night that Ike hit (and Justin, too), and they were all doing fine. I checked with him right after the storm, and again they were fine. But i've not spoken to him since then, and I don't recall seeing him post since then, either.

Lookin' good Brent. Keep the pics comin'.

Hey everyone! Jodina hasn't killed me yet so I'm still kicking!! We are doing fine just so busy with the boys. Got Cody (oldest) married off this past summer and graduated from University of Houston in December. Evan (youngest) is a senior in high school so we are nuts to butts with all of those activities along with just about every collage in the USA calling on him. He has chosen University of Mary Harden Baylor (good thing I'm not having to pay for much of it) and is going on a missionary trip to Japan for most of this summer.

With us being so busy, we won't be able to make the Homecoming again this year, but I promise we will be there next year. So wear your loudest shirts and raise a toast in our honor!!

The Orange POS is still kicking with 25k miles on her.

And Brent, the Stang is lookin Bitchin!!!!!!! Can't wait to see it painted!

    1 more pic

The other pics were on a cloudy rainy day. This is on a sunny day with the garage door open. The pearl layers really come to life and at night when lights hit it it is pretty cool too. It's not for everyone but it is exactly what I had pictured for this car.

    Thanks,
