    Relays added for headlights

I added some relays to my headlight circuit to take the current load off off the headlight and dimmer switches.
Here is the wiring diagram. The relays are 30 amp normally open (N.O.)

I basically took the power feeding the dimmer switch in the column and used it to power up a couple of relays.

Here are the high(green w/white) and low (brown w/white) beam power wires coming out of the steering column from the black plug. Those are wired to the relay coils and the ones with the black wires attached feed the headlights from the new relays.

here, the small one on the left, is the first relay which sends power to the high and low beam relays. The relay was purchased at Advanced Auto parts store and is located with the fog lights. It is a thirty amp relay and I used these because they are very common and can be purchased at any auto parts store. They are only $6 each. The large relay is for my cooling fan.

Here is the headlight switch. The purple wire is feeding the steering column and will be already connected to the same lug as the red wire.
The red wire was added and feeds the first relay that sends power to the high and low beam relays.
This wire was disconnected originally by me because I eliminated the steering column dimmer switch and had a dimmer switch in the dash. I didn't like this set up as I had to remove my had from the steering wheel on the back roads to dim the headlights.

The above are older pictures and I was able to add two more relays in this area and change the wiring without pulling the dash.

This is a new photo and you can see the head light relay(HL) is buddied up with the fan rely and the high/low relays are together next to the fuse block. I added the separate fuse block for the fan, power outlet and the Tri-bar headlights. Probably not neccessary but I just did it anyway.
