    Help with Ammeter wireing

I am working on the wireing on my car and I can't tell which terminal on the ammeter is the positive one. there are no clear markings on it. There is a mark that looks like part of a + on the left terminal (looking at the back) but this is reverse of what the drawing in the wireing manual shows. it is a Stewart Warner #82404 ammeter. Help!!

Just pick one, if you are wrong it will only read backwards.

Weaver is right. I hooked mine up like instructions and when first drove car it moved to the left (neg) so I reversed terminals and it moved to the pos.

Just looked at mine and the big red wire with the white stripe is on the left and the right side has 3 red wires.

I have found that from one gauge to the next they will wire different, trial and error.

Thanks for looking Bob, I think I have the same as you, which is not the way my car was originally wired. the + side is poorly marked but on close inspection looks to be a factory marking.

Does it mean anything if it doesn't move in either direction [other than it being a faulty guage] Mine doesnt show charge or discharge, but with the car running, i hooked up a battery meter direct to the battery and it does indicate 12.8 -13, which seems a bit low, but it is putting out.
