Pre-cut 3M Protective Sheets?
After racking up 9500 miles on the FIA, the rock chips on my rear fender flares have become noticable. I plan on touching them up over the winter, then install those clear 3M protective decals. Does anybody offer them pre-cut for the Unique cars, or will I need to just buy a sheet of it and cut it myself?
Anybody got any tips on installing this stuff?
Thank,
Russ

Russ- I had the same issue with my FIA. Not aware of anyone who makes pre-cut pieces for the car but I tried cutting my own and had several problems. Cutting them out was not an issue....applying them over anything but a glossy smooth (newly painted) surface ends up looking like hell. I had recently bought a new F-250 and had the bed Rhino coated. Pretty tough stuff. Took the Cobra down to the dealer and had him mask and paint the damaged area on the fenders. Did not have to do any prep work on the area since the Rhino stuff is textured. Has completely solved the issue of rock dings and the Rhino coat actually looks pretty good (my car is grey and the Rhino coat is a darker shade of grey). I have been well pleased. Just a thought.

Finishline has precut clear plastic static cling-like protective stone guards that are inexpensive and do a decent job. They fit fairly well on my 427 and they are easily installed and removed.

Ditto to what Walter said. They fit fairly well on the 427 body, and went for $31.00 earlier this year. More importantly, thus far no chips.

Walter or Stan,
Can you define "fairly well"? Or, better yet, share a photo?
Thanks!

Its a funny thing that stuff gits thrown on there when a sidepipe blocks it.
When I was at the Ford Fever event and I had to creep through some mud on the asphalt I couldn't believe when I got out the car it was all over my fender flares. Nothing inside of the wheel wells.
How about some mud flaps on the front fenders?

Tony,
Mud flaps.... and maybe a bug deflector on the hood [:O]
I haven't had a problem (yet) with rock ships on the rear flares, but it is only a matter of time. Photos would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Here's a not very close shot of the 3M coating with gloss black over the top. When it chips, it very simple to mask and re-shoot. I like the look, but everyone's taste is different.

Clay, I could do that to my car and no one would notice.
Phil, Bug deflector? You could use a competition windshield for a bug shield![)]

I could, and then we would have the positive and negative Uniques.

Ready to go cruisin' in the cold and rain.
This Sunday we have a half day fishing charter on the Bay.
Hope it clears up like they say. Maybe we'll have Rockfish for supper.

Phil,
As for "fairly well", I think they fit pretty good. The shape of the precut piece fits the contour of 427 body to where it's within a 1/4"-1/2" inch or so of the edge of the fender. At can very easily be trimmed because the material is very thin, enough to where you have to look closely to see it , but effectiveniss might be limited to only small pebbles. I'd say it's worth a try because it's cheap.
