I am about 10 months in to my build and have alot of info and photo's. My car is a 427 S/C with a 427 SO and Big input , Big output toploader. I have many mods like the emergency brake, MG trunk prop rod, aluminum kit, big brakes, and others. If I can help let me know. My body is 2 weeks from being ready at the paint shop and I am running my engine and drivetrain on the chassis so I check things out.

I should be getting my car in 2 or 3 weeks :) You guys need to post more details on what you did or what you plan to do. I'm still undecided on wheels and paint. Unique has my SAE 396 stroker and toploader. Man I can't wait for my FIA.

Joe, (anyone)

When I took ownership of the car, it was stressed that I make sure all the nuts and bolts were checked often to make sure they weren't coming loose.
All I can think of is the steering wheel coming off in my hands at speed. What exactly am I looking for? I understand that it's a high vibration platform but do I get out at every stoplight with a socket set and check? I'm not a complete dunce when it comes to mechanical work but most of my work is done with a AAA card followed by a credit card...
Any helpful hints would be appreicated...

locktite is a good way to prevent nuts from backing off. can be found in industrial supply stores, and even home depot. several versions for different applications. from nuts that you know you will never want to remove, to nuts that will need to be removed for some purpose.

Loctite is the ticket. I haven't had any fastners back off as of yet! If I can just get reverse to engage without grinding I'll have it made! Clutch is adjusted properly, about the only luck I have is pumping the slave a few times. This works sometimes but not always.

Congrats on your purchase!

I've put over 2700 miles on my car since September 19th of last year(the day it became roadworthy). So far, the only problem I've faced with nuts wanting to back off are with the door latch and strikers. The latching mechanism (attached to the door with screws) should be checked occasionally to be sure it hasn't vibrated loose. This has only happened to my passenger door once, so it may not be a real problem. The striker (that little triangle-shaped thingy attached to the car body) is another story. It attaches with a nut and has some "springiness" built into it because of a rubbr bushing or something. So effectively torquing down the nut is difficult. This is where the "red" Loctite comes in. I finally bought some Loctite, torqued it down well (make sure it's positioned correctly before the Loctite sets!), and violala! No more problems with the strikers.

Another thing to do: if you use Trigo wheels with the true knock-off spinners, BE SURE TO SECURE THOSE SPINNERS! You can use stainless safety wire or some other method, but just do it. They WILL loosen as you drive. Trust me. I'm currently using unsightly (but cheap and effective) cable ties (sigh) until I can get around to purchasing a set of safety wire pliers. Having them secured gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when driving.

Keith :)

Eliminator,
What mods did you make to your emergency brake? I have had a new cable arm made which has the squared hole rotated to give me more cable motion. I still need to mount the handle so that the release clears the carpet, etc. I'm just looking for some ideas.

Thanks

GS - Permited file types are .jpg, .gif, and .png. Be sure the file extention matches one of these and it should work.
