View Full Version : Unique chassis numbers

Do Unique cars have unique chassis numbers. I'm thinking of adding the ability to add your car number to your profile and have it displayed under your username. What do you guys think?

Each car has a vin or chassis number stamped on the upper left frame rail where the front suspension bolts to the frame, older cars have a 4 digit number and newer cars have a 7 digit number. Some states add their own vin number and may use our number and add to them. If you buy a used Unique and need info about the car try and have the vin number handy when you call.

Iam all for it, sounds good to me (4279405). I think all the FIA's start with 289?? Is that correct Alan? Noticed that my car has it stamped on the driver's side rear frame close to where the roll bar mounts. It also has it up front.

I think we started using a 7 digit number in 1997 after being contacted by Washington DC DMV, they said that the trailer industry uses a 4 digit vin # and when he ran the numbers of one of our customers car several trailers that had been reported stolen came up with the same number. I am not sure when we started using & numbers but I will check and post it later.

OK - I registered www.cobrafest.com awhile back and ran with it for a little while but took it down when some of the other forum admin's didn't like it. It's a dead link now that I was playing with a new site for SA on and have since taken down. It was a map of the us, clickable by state and allowed a home page of sorts for each person to upload descriptions, pics of their car, etc. I can put it back up, limit it to Unique's as a registry, and integrated with this forum. I'd like to make sure our admin is ok with that first.

Whatever state my car was first registered in (I think NC), created a VIN number adding the Unique chassis number to the end. It's now titled and registered in MD as a 65 "Ford Roadster." I'm running 65 Maryland vintage plates with the numbers SC-0427....cool huh?

Eliminator, here is a design I had done for Alan about a year ago which was needed in a hurry for either a trade show or homecomming (can't remember which). Unfortunately, I screwed up and included a cobra (snake) in the graphic, rendering it non-politically correct at the time - for different reasons than you were thinking about, I believe.;)
I always kept the design in case it was needed again so here it is with and without the snake.
Of course Alan still has the say on how and where it can be used since it was originally created for Unique Motorcars.http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/buzz/uniqueT.jpg

Rick,

It's likely 9006. Correct viewing angle is from the driver's side. Mine's 9299 built in 88.

Buzz, are you sure that's not 9017?...never seen a 7000 series number. However, Maurice did tell me at one point the numbers weren't always sequential are there's no particular meaning.

I thought it was 9006 and that is how it reads from the drivers side. When I talked to Maurice about the car he recognized the number and had a picture of it in his office from when it was built. It was supposedly used for some advertisement but I have yet to track that down. Guess I am just going to have to make the trip down there and get a copy of that picture!
Thanks
