<img src=images/icon_speech_duh.gif border=0 width=23 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Duh!> Before Alan receives another call from that guy in California that doesn't seem to know what he's doing, I'll give you folks a shot. The body isn't due back from the painter for another 4-5 weeks, so all I have to do is muddle over assembly issues - I've put this thing together about 5x's in my mind. On the sixth imaginary assembly it occurred to me.... what about mounting the seats?!? I'm planning on using the method to elevate the front portion of the seats, but what about bolting/mounting them (the seats) to the body/frame? It doesn’t seem there is a whole lot of "meat" in the base of the seat to anchor a lag (or whatever) to. So, ................ how does this all come together[?][?]
Thanks, Phil

Remove the 4 phillips screws on the bottom of the seat that hold the base cushion in place

Place the seat in the car and establish the best seating position for you.At this time you will notice that you can not center the 4 mounting bolts in the seat or you will miss the mounting plate in the frame and end up drilling into the inner frame rail.

Next drill the seat base, install your bolts, and put the seat base back on using the 4 phillips head screws. You now have 4 "studs" sticking out of the bottom of the seat. Use large washers under the car when mounting through the seat mount plate.

When you use a spacer under the front of the seat you also need to make some type of angled spacers or bushings for the rear bolts. The base of the seat is just plywood so if you try to tighten the rear bolts it will just bend and break.

If you do not need adjustable seat tracks the seats are quite easy to install. I needed to install them to keep peace in the household but I did not want to raise the seat any higher in the car. It is tough to get the setup right so that when the seat is in the back position it actually extends behind the track and touches the floor. The front spacer is 5/8" shorter than the passenger seat and the seats are even with each other in the back position and 1" higher when slid forward. Wife happy.

Have fun

I used seat tracks and figured out a nifty way to mount them. I can explain it in detail via email if you need it. I also posted a description and some pictures a while back.
