I think this is the way it works... but to be certain - the plate that mounts on the block (shown below) has two ports. The upper left port is the output to the remote oil filter - - the lower right is the return from the oil cooler. Right? The smaller port is for the oil pressure (has to be, 'cause those big ol' fittings won't fit!!!)

The lengths I have are: block plate to remote oil filter - 20", remote oil filter to cooler 69.5", cooler to block plate, 36". The remote oil filter will mount on the water pump.

Thanks for any assistance or recommendations - Phil

The pressure side or outlet is the outside fitting. The oil os returned via the center fitting. Look at a new oil filter and you'll see a series of small holes around the center. Behind those holes is a rubber valve. This is a one way check valve. If you hook it up backwards, you'll have oil pressure at your gauge but no oil flowing through the engine and you'll have a very bad day.

Someone jump in here and correct me if I'm wrong.

My mistake <img src=images/icon_speech_sigh.gif border=0 width=27 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Sigh...> To clarify - The lower right port of the block plate connects to the remote oil filter, pictured below (upper left port). The lower right port of the remote oil filter connects to the oil cooler (passenger side). The driver side outlet of the cooler connects to the upper left port on the block plate. This is the same path as the oil flow. The furthest left port on the block plate is the oil pressure gauge fitting. Right[?], or [?][?]

You can cool the oil pre or post filter ( I suggest you run through the filter first to keep the fins of the cooler clean) but the bottom port of your block plate is the pressure side and the upper fitting is the return line and YES the small port is for a pressure gauge.

Be sure to remove the distributor and prime the system before starting the motor. Remote systems need to be full and free of air before starting.

Phil,
This is an area that you will very likely get leaks if its not done correctly. The remote oil cooler adapter that you have pictured that mounts on the engine likes to leak. I made my own gasket, the one SA made restricted the oil flow, you can get gasket material at NAPA, #JV100 Victolex sheet 1/64". Use Permatex Aviation Form-A-Gasket on that surface, follow the directions and let both parts dry before you put them together. You can get this sealant liquid at NAPA, their number is 765-1210, the permatex number is H4 Aviation Form-A-Gasket, I think. Also this is great to use on your fittings on all your oil lines, excess can be cleaned up with alchol. I's fuel proof and oil proof. After you run you engine and it cools down, tighten the 4 bolts on the block adapter again, do this three times. Guess what, no leaks. Also take you fuel tanks sending unit off the tank, check the surfaces, deburr, put back and coat the holes in the aluminm tank, and screws with the aviation sealant, a toothpick will do the job, then use it on your tank connections too. Great stuff, aAlan Weaver turned me on to it, should be in the assembly manual!!

Eliminator - thanks for the tip. Since I'm just sitting around waiting for the body to return from the painter, these things will occupy my ideal time!

Thanks

Eliminator - you da man... NAPA #'s and everything! Had to have them order the gasket material, but it will be in tomorrow AM. I pulled the block plate and, yeah, I can see why it would have a tendancy to leak (a lot!) the way it was installed. Although it is "ideal" time I spend working on the Cobra, I meant to say idle... same-o, same-o :D

Thanks again to all..........

Hello Phil,

Is the photograph of the adapter plate correct? In other words, is the pressure gauge port toward the front of the car?

As I am relatively new to this forum, I apologize if you previously received this inquiry.

Thanks
Gerry
