View Full Version : Bad Headlight Circuit

After some 10,000 miles, I've started blowing the fuse in the headlight circuit. Everyting else works just fine. No new wiring projects as a possible cause. Anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions as I begin the diagnostics? I positively hate electrical gremlins! :( :(

I blew a fuse 2 weeks ago - when i switched om the high beams.
I have not driven a night since then so I'm not sure if it was
a fluke or a problem in the circuit.

my fuse blew last summer when i switched on the high beams. went 5 amps higher on the fuse and i always keep spare fuse in the car. i havent had a problem since. later , brian

Brian,

So I take it you went up to a 20 amp? I may try that, see what happens. If it blows . . . well, on to Plan B whatever that is. [?]

gary, just went out to look at the fuse. its a 25 amp. works fine. been a year and a half since i replace it that one time. if your fuse is only 15amps i would think that would be a little low for the spike that circuit gets when it comes on. later, brian

Brian,

A 25 amp fuse seems to have cured whatever ailed it. Of course, having said that, I'm probably doomed to a trip in total darkness sometime in the near future! :D

They make brakers that fit into the fuse holder, they reset in a few seconds. look at a truck supply for them.

gary, tape a couple of new fuses to the wires coming off the switch and youll have a spare thats always right there when the time comes. later, brian.
