:D:DWell with alot of you folks building cars I though I would get out and drive since we have had 4 straight days of low 70's. Boy was it nice, that BB FE loves 70 degress weather. Now its time to put her up for the winter as I have several upgrades and project to finish before Unique Homecoming next May I hope[^]. The weather today, presently 28 degrees and snowing lightly:(. Well it is nearly Thanksgiving. By the way I hope everyone has a safe and fun Thanksgiving Holidays.[^]

What could you possibly need to improve on your car [?]

I have finished the wiring and plumbing, bled the brakes and throwout bearing, and put it back on the ground.

Eliminator, my thoughts exactly. I had sincere plans to do some much needed yard work yesterday. Unfortunately, the best weather for doing yard work is also the best weather for NOT doing yard work. I got with another local Cobra owner here in the Atlanta area and we shot up to the north end of the state to a popular resturaunt for lunch and then back to Central Georgia through miles of mountain roads. The weather was perfect and road conditions were suitable for pushing the envelope. I rubbed blisters on my butt with all of the high G turns I made snaking around the countryside. With the light weight of my new Windsor stroker and enormous torque, I had an absolute blast! I got jumped on by a Mustang leaving the resturaunt and decided what the hell, a night in jail is worth taking on a challenge. Needless to say, he was badly discraced. Definitely beat yard work.

Brent,
Get you a nice carpet knife at Lowe's or Home Depot and go by a fabric shop and buy a chalk marking pencil. Well worth the money.

As for improvements:

Carb, work, remove the secondary metering plate and replace with a metering body for the screw in secondary jets on the Holley 3310.

Steering Dampner, Vibration Resistor, same thing...buy the way I ordered you one of the six coming.

Drivers side windshield wiper assy. wrong gear in mine, runs off the windshield, 99% are correct gear 1% wrong..you guessed it.

Pull the Canton High Capacity Pan (8qt) and install a Canton Road Race Pan (8qt).

Install the plastic hinge covers on the doors.

Work on the rear axle shims to get some negative camber in the rear end.

Scratched the passenger side Side Pipe, with the Motorcycle Jack..dumb move, so pull it and have the ceramic coating re-done.

Change the rear spring spacers to get the correct geometry on the Carerra's Left and Right side.

Install one new Chromemaster Valve cover, adjust the valves and replace the plugs at the same time.

Fix all road dings with base coat and clear coat over them and finish with a finishing stone and buff out (this will end up being an Annual Ocurrence).

That should do it and keep me busy until driving time in April.
The little things never end.

Eliminator,

Sounds like you have a long winter planned. Some folks would look at your project list and think you're starting over building your car :D I hope to have a list like that next winter after an enjoyable spring, summer, and fall driving and id'ing what I want to do next.

Stay warm.

eliminator, when i hear you guys talk of your last ride for the year, it makes waiting for the car to get back from the painters all the more longer.guess i'm being too optimistic to be back in 3 to 4 weeks. the owner of the paint shop has been working on his own factory five body. when he saw my unique, he couldn't believe how good the fit and finish of the unique was compared to his factory five. he was almost as excited as i was to get started and have it painted. anyway, i'm hoping for a feburary finish, and you can bet the first nice clear day no matter how cold, i'm taking it out. glenn

I looking forward to hearing some details on the Steering Dampner. I am thinking of adding that to my winter projects.
On my current "to-do" list is adding the canceling turn signal mod and possibly re-routing my heater ducts. I am also thinking about adding a glove box.

See there are all kind of Cobra Projects for the winter. It's hard to quit tinkering with these things even after you finish one. Plus with all the great builds going on I can't stay idle, you guy's will get ahead of me. As for Homecoming I am going to (and I hope everyone else will) let the Weaver's know that it's not an option it's a must and we need to set a date!!! It would be great to put a face, and car together with a Forum Name. Plus there are some great Unique owners that never get on this Forum that all you guy's would enjoy meeting. Like a Butch Capps, Lee Dalimer better known as OC (Out of Control), Tracy Arrington, Will Butterworth, Ralph Long, Ralph Scott, Dan Fowler, Tony Lewis, (Hybrid Daytona Coupe w/Unique Frame under construction), Richard Dunn, and the list goes on and on. So yea it would be great.

Last ride of the year? [?] [?]

For better or worse, the Capital Area Cobra Club is pretty much a year round deal. Dry roads, even with temps in the teens, will get us out and about - mostly sans tops. We have an annual New Years Day Frostbite Cruise, which got rather interesting last year when the forecast of “light flurries” changed a bit. [8D] :D See below!

My hats off to your bunch Gary! You guys are the TRUE diehards. I've driven my Cobra in the rain, when its cold and even got hit by a hail storm once but never in the snow. How does it handle in the snow? I would imagine the rear end can get a bit fishy!
Last year I had to leave the Cobra in the garage because I was too much of a wimp to go out in the snow.

You can call me a wimp or whatever but my Car and me aint geting out in that white $%&*. It's like golf and motorcycle riding if it's warm I enjoy it, but if it's cold, forget it. If I am not enjoying it then I am not going to be doing it. Gary I wonder about you, we need to have a talk.
Now on the other hand I will set in a tree stand at 18-20' waiting for a big Whitetail in most kind of weather (no rain, was young and dumb once) with a bow, but thats fun.
There is no way driving a Cobra in the snow can be fun....hurts me to see the picture of a nice car like a Cobra covered in SNOW.

No chains, no snow tires, and probably not much common sense either. :D Light snow was forecast, turned into 6" plus while we were on the road. We generally terrorize the Capitol mall then retire to a bar on Capitol Hill for libations and warmth. As we were heading toward the bar, some DC cops stopped us to ask what possible reason we could offer up for a bunch of convirtables (Cobras no less) being out and about during a snow storm. Thought we were crazy, but ended up giving us a police escort to the bar! :D

Handling really wasn't that bad - in fact, much better than my 300ZX, which only goes sideways in even an inch of snow :(. But the loud pedal has to be used VERY sparingly. And not recommended if you want to keep the underside of your car pristine! :( Still cleaning/polishing the mess!

One last pic of a member of that fateful group who made it to the end of his drive - but no further. [xx(]

The problem here in Northern Ohio is that they throw tons and tons of salt on the streets.. After the first substantial snow the streets will have salt on them until the spring rains....I've got a black F150 and after twenty miles on these streets it's white from top to bottom...you have to scrap it off.

at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it......
