How many would like to come to this in Gadsden, AL. Would probably be the second week-end in May. A Friday, Sat, Sunday deal. Be honest about it. Would you bring a car or come if your car wasn't finished.
This does not necessarily mean there will be one I am just wondering about the views from members on this site.

I regret not having made a homecoming or Cobrafest in the past I would love to go! I hope that there will be a Track day. A track day is pretty much a must in my opinion.

Man-o-man, would I love to be there :D Only one problem - I'm about two thousand miles away. Hey! I've got an idea - - how 'bout all you Southern folks come out here to California, we'll B-B-Q up some steaks, I'll supply all the cold beer you can drink, and I'll even see if I can get Arnold to come by as our honored guest :D

Seriouly, if there was some way to be there, I would..... believe me!

When I was in the Army I asked this guy where he was from (he had a real deep southern drawl). Knowing I was from CA he told be L.A........ Lower Alabama. Ended up being my best friend in Viet Nam. Probably subconsciously had something to do with me buying a Unique from the Weavers (I love calling back there and talking to Jean).

I didn't answer the poll, because the response below was not one of the multiple choices:

Yes, I'll definitely come if I've convinced myself to buy an enclosed trailer by then.

Although I'm a member of the infamous Capital Area Cobra Club and their more infamous "snow cruise" last year, I'm in the, "I'd really like to keep my car fairly pristrine, " camp even though I do love to drive it on reasonable days above 32 F, with no precip. I don't need no stinkin' snow cruise in my Cobra. Now I realize it probably will not snow between DC and AL in May.....but. it's almost guaranteed to pour buckets on the East Coast, sometime within that 3-4 day period.

Even Maurice Weaver (who I completely trust) has told me "there is no good hardtop option, and even the softtop requires a custom fit (by an experienced soft-top specialist, certainly not DIY) and even then is still more of a wind tunnel, plus rain." Thus, I don't know another good way to get from the Wash, DC area to Gadsen, AL without being probably being both wet and miserable.....guess I'm too old for that. Not to mention that my butt would probably have to be amputated after 1 full day on those seats (2 hrs is my current limit....LOL). Maybe I'm too skinny and need to put on some lbs, or find a better seat bottom.

If I do convince myself to buy that enclosed Cobra carrier, I'd love to be there.

Wimp here, I know, but would love to come.....

Clay you raise a question I have thought about since I got my car. I want an enlcosed trailer, however I don't want a big box type. With that in mind I have been working on a neat small streamlined design, ome that could be pulled behind a car or SUV. My questions is what would you guys be willing to pay for a revolutionary little trailer. I hope to build a proto-type this winter and if it works like I think it will I may build more of them.

As far as the track event, I think that is out???? There seems to be big jump in requirements for a track event. Insurance has gone way up, having an ambulance, ect. ect..
Not sure but in my last conversation with Maurice the track event may not happen at Homecoming. Do a nice Poker Run through the back country, Car Show/Factory Tour, and Picnic. Yes if you are several hours from Gadsden a trailer is nice. Since I too like to keep my car nice and attend events I did get a 22' enclosed trailer, 8" wide and I have used it a bunch. Big investment but used alot, you can get into a basic 20' no frill enclosed trailer for around 5,000-5,500.

Phil,
Maybe the westerners will have to do their own thing - or see you in Reno. Hopefully I'll have mine done by then.

Can I assume there will be a caravan running from Atlanta to Gadsden? Randy, I've wondered the same thing about a compact trailer that's small like a Cobra and not good for much else. Maybe even something with drop-down sides and a winch to pull it in. I'm just interested in keeping the weight and signature down to a minimum.

Would like to come if we have our car ready,
might even drive my Pantera down also.

PS Randy, I saw a flat bed tilt-trailer that someone had made a low fiberglas top that raised up clamshell like from the rear, worked great.

Does Taladega have an open track day arround that time? Most tracks do and limit it to a certain amount of cars. With reservations we could all possibly be the only ones on the track. Typical cost would be under $200.00
P.S. Oklahoma is in the middle of the country!

Randy,

I'd be very interested in purchasing a streamlined enclosed trailer suitable for a Cobra. One of the reasons I've been hesitating, is that I don't like the big boxes either. I've looked at motorcycle trailers that you could shoe-horn one in but at 7'wide and only a small side door, it would be tough to tie the car down properly or even get out. Depending on the price, I would very much be interested in your new design.

Funny as I was thinking about Car Trailers earlier today. I'd like something that would fit a Cobra but I'd probably use it more for a Formula ford or Vee.

Randy, have you done any price checking? It seems that there are trailer fab shops everywhere thanks to the blue collar trade and landscape companies. Though it seems that enclosed trailers are a bit harder to come by than the open type.

Randy- definitely interested in your trailer concept. Would really like to get down to Gadsden but like some of the other left coasters that's a long haul to drive (yes I'm old and bruise easily). For any of the other Westerners who are interested, SAAC has two great events at Willow Springs every year in May and October. They have open track time and Willow is of particular interest because the Shelby organization used to do a lot of their developement and testing there in the 60s.
Maybe if I had a neat little trailer I could make it to Gadsden.....

Phil, with Clay's new seat material cushion material (see http://uniquecobra.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=331&whichpage=2 ) the drive should be painless!

clayfoushee
December 9th, 2003, 06:22 AM
.....Okie....thanks for the reference, but let's make sure we all like it first...LOL. If it works, it might be painless in the butt, but it'll still be wet, and my pristine undercarriage will look like hell.

Where's that trailer design GA-Snake?

If track time is out how about we try and setup a dyno trip. I bet the Weavers know the location of one if not we could try

I shot an email off to Talladega Gran Prix Raceway inquiring the cost renting their track and also providing an instructor to give a primer on performance driving.
I have always wanted to go to a Unique Homecoming (since we can no longer call it Cobrafest). The tradition of these outings has been a Poker Run day, paying homage to your cars birthplace day with a factory tour, and a Track Day at the Talladega Gran Prix Track. Not everyone participates in the track day but still come out for the day of fun. I would love to meet you guys and share in 3 days of Unique tradition. I can’t why we should break with a tradition that goes back to 1992 (I think that’s the date).

Phil,

Scroll up and click on the link Okie provided ("lumbar support). It's all there, and you were participating in the discussion, earlier.

You asked if the seat was really that uncomfortable, since you've not driven your car yet. Answer, YES!!!!!!! As Okie said, we think we may have found a cost-effective solution, but neither of us have installed the TEMPUR cushion yet. In that thread, I also provided a web-site where you can buy one that probably won't have to be reshaped much at all for $34.99.

Best, Clay

Well all I can say with the results of the Homecoming Poll that The Unique Folks, Momma Jean, Maurice and Alan need to get together and set a date. Seriously, I think a date has to be established by late January because people start planning their year early. Looks like we could easily have 30-40 cars as the majority of people that go are not on this site. That would be a blast.

I'd love to take a ride...It's too early to put the car on the road but I've wanted to get down to the Alabama coast and Gadsden would put me in striking distance.... I'm very flexible on dates.... I'd like to see the facility and some great cars...

I'll follow the thread to see what's decided...

I had a brief conversation with Maurice last week on another subject. In closing, I asked about the homecoming and he mentioned the possibility of a weekend in May (I forgot which one). I should have me a trailer by then (maybe a bunch of them).

Had a similar conversation with Alan last week. He thinks they're going to do it, but are still concerned about the desire of many to have a "track event." My suggestion was for them to put that aside and do it anyway. I will come just to meet others, see the factory, meet them, have a nice dinner or two, and a cruise/poker run with all of you.

Ditto to Clay. The track event is just to much liabilty to expect them to cover and insurance would probably be over $4000. There are plenty of track events around the country where the expense can be covered by many.
