The day after Christmas in the garage:D. The cardboard templets are finished and I am hoping to cut the aluminum and get it all fitted tomorrow.

Thanks for all the pics in the old post. It really helped.

Brent it looks like we spent our time doing the same thing. I cut my pieces yesterday and like the trial fit. I hope to finish the install today and move on to the next item on my list.

I did nearly the same thing on the oil cooler but something different on the radiator shroud. I'll post some pictures later today. I'm still looking for a way to take advantage of the high pressure air in the snout to cool the front rotors. Those of us with FIA cars have a bit of a problem getting air to the brakes unless we go under the car. I'm looking at the under car solution as well.

All competion FIA car's had under the car collectors for brake cooling. I think that would be easier to do then using the radiator inlet air. Just my 2 cents worth.

I have heard that sometimes brake air ducts on a street car is not always a good idea. They can work as funnels to direct bugs, dirt, and debris into your brakes.

Finished it up today:D. Now if I can just get my fan bracket from the chrome shop:(

As usual Brent, you do nice work! I've been fighting with installing a lift in my garage for the last 3 days. Either you or Phil asked for pics of that, and I'll get around to posting them in a few days, after I heal my sore body. Bench pressing those cross bars and ramps was a bit of a workout.

Speaking of the fan mount, did anyone put anything behind the two mounting plates? I have some thin rubber I could make a gasket out of or I thought about drilling the holes larger and installing grommets to bolt through. Any tricks here?

Brent,

The Aluminum work look's Great!!
I used a high-tech gasket material between my fan mounts and the aluminum. Then used Button Head Stainless Steel screws that I polished to a chrome like finish. Another week-end like the last and you will be driving.

This shows my stupidity, but I'm thinking of putting aluminum on my car.
What are you guys using to cut the aluminum?
Are you polishing or coating the aluminum first?
What guage Aluminum are you using?

WB,
Cut with electric shears where possible and trim with tin snips and a fine file.

Cardboard templets first, cut aluminum, fit aluminum (Klecos are a must, remove and polish, install again.

I am using .030 thick #3003 aluminum. Very inexpensive a 4'X 8' sheet is only $35.00. I have less than $15.00 in the oil coller and radiator aluminum including the grommets and fasteners.

Brent,

What are the tab's on the front of the radiator?

Mounting tabs for dual 12" aux. cooling fans. I am working on another mount that will do away with the tabs. I do not like the way they look from the front.

This is a design for a new electric fan mount to replace the existing Unique design. It will be made out of T-6 aluminum and polished to a mirror finish.I tried to stay with the "oval" theme to match the opening in the front of a Cobra.

I would like to know your opinion.[?]

Brent, it look neat, but I'd need to see both brackets with fans mounted to decide which I prefer. I actually do like the look of the simple parallel bars.

Brent, I have seen those Mounting tabs and the bolts that go thru the radiator wear holes in the aluminum tubes, so a mount that doesn't go thru the radiator is a verry good idea.

Brent your snout pieces are terrific and made me re-think what I had done. I trashed the stuff I did before Christmas and started over today.

I found an aluminum supplier in Atlanta - Southern Aluminum Finishing (SAF). Based on what I've read, this seems to be the right stuff to use for the engine bay and oil cooler/radiator. I asked if they had annealed, but they don't. Thoughts on using this and the price quoted?

Description: 0.032 x 48.00 x 120.000 5005
Color: Clear Anodize
Class: Clear 201
Sides: 2
Tape: 1
Lbs: 18.08
Each: $62

Pat that should work fine. I would ask if it had any coating over the anodize that would be and issue with the heat from the headers. You don't want to install it and have it turn yellow on you after a while. The aluminum is pretty simple to do when the body is off the car but a BEAR afterward.

Yeah - I'm thinking about cleaning up the engine bay a bit and am getting a quote to have the engine pulled to do it. Thanks!
