What an incredible January 1. Had the kids and grand kids over for brunch, and then lured my son-in-law into the garage to help me hang the doors.

Here's a nugget of information for those of you that haven't taken your car to the painter yet. Adjust your doors and trunk deck before you take the car to the painter. I was in a hurry to get mine off to the painter in September before he got busy for the winter and didn't take the time I should have making final adjustments – not that it would have mattered.

My painter probably does 5-6 FFRs a month, but has only done a few Unique’s, so he's not aware of all the nuances having to do with the plate the trunk hinges hang from, the door hinges and spacers, etc.... so he removed them! <img src=images/icon_speech_ugh.gif border=0 width=23 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Ugh> It's a major pain to get everything back in place, particularly the trunk (unless you know a midget you can stuff in the back - close the trunk - and have him tighten down the nuts.

I kinda feel like I did when I graduated from high school - thrilled that I made it, and sad that it was over (although this is a work in progress for many years to come). With that said, he is what was accomplished today.

My wife is thrilled - the last two pieces are out of the guest bedroom!

Way to go Phil! Awesome car.....hope your first ride is a memorable as mine, but I didn't build my car, so hopefully, the satisfaction will be all that much better.

Nice Job, My experience is the only time YOU are done with a car project is when you sell it to someone else then they cary on.

Couldn't agree more Jerry and Mike.....even though I've only owned it for 5 months and it's been "done" for 5 years, I learned very quickly that this car has a knack for unscrewing itself all over the place. Plus, there's always something new to do.

Car looks great Phil. Good luck with the DMV today. Give us feedback as to how your first "legal" drive went.

U SAID IT - Clay: "unscrewing itself"
I'm always finding loose nuts and bolts on my car.
My latest deal:
Over the last 2 months I have noticed my car getting slower.
All kind of things are going through my mind as to the culprit
(valve spring, carb, timming, compression, etc ) the car just wasn't
scary fast anymore. So new years eve I took the air cleaner off started making some adjustments - low a behold - the throttle linkage had moved on the piviot arm. The throttle was opening less than 3/4 of WOT with the gas pedal fully pressed.
Long story short - readjusted and tighted all linkage - cranked her up took a little jaunt over to a long open road and when I hit 2nd, she got sideways - result - Scary fast again.

Phil,

You have a beautiful car. It has been fun to watch someone going through the same things I am going through on the other end of the country. You have done a great job!
