Since it doesn't seem there are many posts lately, I'll clutter the forum up with this. Pretty gloomy today and I was bored, so I decided to drill some holes in my hood...

..... for the rivets (I removed the mandrels so the sleeve slips in and out for waxing, etc.)

phil, at least you did something constructive. this is what i did to relieve my boredom. i went to a us marshall`s auction of siezed property, specifically for an ERA 427 that was there. (along with about 20 other bidders including peter from ERA) the car was a customer build, with a minimal budget. to anybody with any knowledge of these cars would agree it was worth about 38k. when the marshall arrives to do the auction, (2 hours after the doors opened) she annouced that the minimum bid that would be accepted would be 36k. after a responce that you would figure a minimum that high would get, all bidders tried to withdraw their bids, and have their bidding deposits ($100 each)returned. it nearly got real ugly. that was refused and the sealed bids were opened. highest bid was $34100. it was rejected. (though the marshall suddenly lowered the minimum on a bmw after the bids were opened.) they even rejected the $3100 bid for a three year old, open style aluminum car trailer the DEA siezed with the car. although it was just a waste of time for me, there was one guy i felt really bad for. he`s from here in connecticut and was out at barret jackson last nite and heard about the auction here, out in arizona, and flew back here last nite to be here today just to find out it wasnt really an auction, more of just a budget build ERA you could buy for the same price as any other comparable budget build ERA for a minimum bid of basically what the car was worth on the open market. it was just a sucker fest and the sucker didnt show up. anyway he was flying back to arizona late this afternoon. after today ,i hope he finds something. although my day was pretty entertaining, you definetly got more accomplished. by the way those rivets look good. later, brian

Yesterday was beautiful here in Atlanta. I got together with fellow Uniquer Clyde "Chill" Hill, two other "brand x"ers and Johan with his GT 40. It was a fun day.

As the terrain got worse, we transitioned to a sturdier vehicle:

I'm bored too:(

1/2 inch of ice on everything.

I started to polish the spinners on my Compomotive wheels and one thing led to another and the next thing I know I have them chucked up in the mill and aluminum is flying everywhere.

I have got to stop doing this or I will never finish this car.

Brent, did you purchase the spinners from Compomotive or did you by the ones they sell on Cobra Country?

I assume they came from Compomotive. The spinners were with my pallet kit.

Instead of using rivets, I drill and tap the fiberglass and use stainless allen head screws, they look like rivets but can be removed easily for waxing. If you have ever had to drill rivets from fiberglass you will understand why I use screws.

Phil,

Looks like quality work....nice job. I prefer the smooth look, but that's what's fun about this hobby, you can do a car according to your personal taste.

Alan, that is a nice alternative if you want the "original rivet look."

Eric - Here are the measurements for the hood rivets.

Alan - I removed the manderal from 3/4" rivets and slipped the rivets into the hole (actually, easier to remove for waxing than screws and they don't bounce out).

Phil.
I used rivets also on my 427....you are right, they stay put with no problem....I've had mine in for 5 years.
One thing different....from somewhere....maybe a 'Cobra Restorers' catalogue I got a rivet count of 31...from where the alluminum hood had to wrap around the tubing.
I have not done my air intake scoop yet....Did you get yours as an aftermarket unit, or did you cut out the original and glass up a flange on it.?
PS...car looks real good.

Mike,

Thanks. I order my hood specially as a rivet-on from the Weaver's when I placed my order.
