Before, and I did mine today. I think it'll be much easier to simply locate the holes and cut out the carpet where required rather than trying to drill holes through the carpet once it's in, not to mention that it's much easier to clean up the mess before the carpet's installed.

Why the slot in the floor? The belt hardware should bolt to the floor. The belt should not go thru it.

I agree....It's much easier to drill the holes before putting in the carpet.
Doug...Don't forget the hole for the fifth point...in front of the seat....I assume you are using a five point harness.

i haven't even looked at the belts, but i assume that the belts should attach to something strong in the frame. is this correct?

and being unemployeed has lots of advantages, but one awful penalty, there are no weekends anymore.

The slot in the floor is for the inside lap belt and it bolts to the safety hoop.

If you attach the seat belt by the drive shaft well to the safty loop, make sure you put a spacer to fill in the gap between the loop and the fiberglass. I used a 1" piece of pipe, cut it off and put a large washer between it and the fiberglass. You might want to check the slot for the sholder harness to make sure it will all fit thru including the metal pieces. I set my seats in place, drilled the holes, installed carpet and used a awl to punch thru from the bottom.

All my seat belts were located and installed before I pulled the body off for the first time. I didn't like my seats belts to the back on the D. Side Right attachment and P. Side left attachment, thats because the drive shaft safety loop is so far back[V]. So I used 1 1/2" square steel tube with 3/8" steel welded to it, drilled and tapped the 3/8" steel and fastned with 3/8" grade 8 bolts, machine thread, this moves the attachment point up about 4" and makes a much nicer mounting point[^][^]. Also I used this as my platform for mounting my emergency brake bracket:D.

eliminator, those brackets are sweet. im using something similar to that in my car. doug, in connecticut, as part of the requirement for a composite vehicle inspection (6 pages here), no seat belt can extend through the floor. also, any seatbelt bolted through the floor only, not bolted directly through the chassis, must be reinforeced by 1/4" steel plate of at least 4 sqare inches. i dont know what applies in your state or their inspection process, but it may be worth checking. i know it was one of the few things the inspector specifically checked on mine. later, brian
