View Full Version : Speedo Cable

Does anyone know the length of the internal drive cable for the speedo cable? I know that there are two different lengths for the whole cable assembly, but I'm assuming that a local speedo shop can fabricate the internal drive cable if you know it's length.

Ben.....You obviously have a very good reason for wanting the internal cable only.
But why don't you try this....for what ever your gearbox is...manual..auto etc..you know what year it is, and probably know what model of car/truck it came from.....Go to the local parts house and order both lengths of the full cable....use the one that works best...return the other.

NAPA and other autoparts cary a universal inner cable that you cut to length then press on the square end.

Ben,

I have the correct cable number at home for purchase of whole cable assembly from NAPA. I'am pretty sure it takes the 6' cable assy. Will edit the reply this PM with the cable number. You could always pull the inner cable out, they are not that expensive.

Considering myself some what of an expert in this area, after all I went through, I'll offer this suggestion, which is the same as Jerry's.

Pickup a universal "chain" as it is called from NAPA. If you have the old internal piece you can measure it to length. If not, fish it into the housing to measure the needed length. Be sure you don't cut it to short. If it's to long you can always cut more off. After it is cut to length you attach the square end. You can use a vice, but I used a pair of crimping pliers that worked fine.

Good luck!

Thanks to all for your help. Phil, I stopped at NAPA on the way home yesterday and picked the part. She's going to the upholstery shop this afternoon, but as soon as she gets back, I'll try this out.

Wow Ben....that's one nice looking ride. Looks like you got the ride height and most other issues sorted out.

Hey Ben,

Just out of curiosity, what size tires (F&R) are you running?

Ben,

Looks good, windshield wipers correct, and a big smile. R Rear may be a tad low. The tire could hit the body if you hit a bump, more noticable with 2 people in the car. Just remember what you do with the R.rear effects the L. front.

Phil, those are P275/60R15 on the rear and P245/60R15 on the front.

Eliminator, thanks for the tip on the wipers. I looked at a bunch of different pictures, saw them both ways and Murphy took over from there. With respect to the rear being a little low, it's the same on both sides. Sadly, when I ordered the deluxe pallet kit, I didn't realize that only the coil over carreras were adjustable :( and I don't want to shim the body to get it level. Sooooo... I'm trying to figure out how to break it to my wife what it is that I want for my birthday. :D

Ben,
You don't have to change shocks to raise the rear end. You can shim the top shock mount to raise it.
