Gentlemen,
I would like to get some wheels on order for the Spence car sometime soon and would like to know what some of you other guys are doing. I know we have had the 15" vs. 17" discussion previously, and I have already decided that I am going to use 15".

So what I would like to know now is...

What brand did you select?
What width did you select?
What backspacing are you running?

Pictures of the fit would be appreciated...Thanks! Maybe we can even use this as a wheel gallery like another Cobra build page...

Brian,

I also vote for the Compomotives. I have identical sets of both 15 and 17 with titanium centers. I haven't measured the backspacing because Alan at Compomotive knows exactly what they should be for Uniques. Don't have a good picture of the 15's as they were just refinished, but here are the 17's.

Hi Yankee
I'm running 15 inch AR Chrome rims.
10 inch rear with 295 X 50's
8 inch front with 265 X 60's.
Dunlop GT Qaulifiers.

Front backspace is 3.5 inches.
Rear backspace ( according to Allan Weaver ) should be 5.5 inches.

My rear backspace is not 5.5 inches and I get an occassional rubbing of tire to wheel arch.( the 295's don't help matters.)

The backspacing I've just mentioned is for my 427....it MAY be
different for your 289.

Got my baby back from the painter this afternoon, so I was able to get a pic from the rear with the 295's. If this thing didn't have penguin wings it could literally fly :D[:P]:D

All,
Is there a chance that someone with bolt-on wheels could take a picture for me of the clearance between the rear trailing arm bracket on the Jag IRS upright and a 15" rim? As I measure up for wheels this appears to me to be the limiter for backspacing. I calculate that I'll have 3/8" clearance with 5" backspacing. Thanks in advance...

3/8 is almost exactly what I have

Nolastyankee,

You are in luck... I've got my car up on stands doing my every 100 mi check-up.

These are PS Engineering wheels. I have never measured the clearance, but you can hardly get a curly hair between the trailing arm mount and the rim. On the up side, I haven't had any problems.

Sorry, I just had to include this 'cause I'm so proud (pictures don't do it justice :D[^]:D

Brent and Phil,
Thanks for the pics. The clearance is close as I suspected.

That is one beautiful car, Phil. I love the color. One question...The flares over the rear wheels appear to be wider than on some other Uniques. Is this the way it came or did you do some body work? I'm not real excited about the way the flares look on the Rescue Cobra and I am contemplating doing a little add-on work...

Thanks again gentlemen!

The rear fender flares on the 427 S/C body and the 289 FIA body are different, the 427 is wider than the 289.

Brian,
That is original equipment - no modifications to the flares.
