View Full Version : Source for leather shifter boot?

I'm not thrilled with the rubber boot that I currently have. It gets cracked and worn too easily. Does anyone have a source for a nice quality leather boot that will fit properly? I'm running a toploader 4-speed with the original "backwards" shifter, if that matters.

Looks like you are having the "Brown Truck" withdrawls to me:D

Must order something and spend money on the car!

Keith,

When you receive this let us know what you think of the quality of the boot.

Thanks,

Rick

Keith , I just ordered one myself. In cool weather my existing stiff rubber boot wants to push my trans. out of gear.

Rick - I'll let you guys know what I think.

Brent - Mine is probably doing the same (it's either that or the ghost in the passenger seat shifting gears for me). My biggest complaint is that my rubber boot developed unsightly cracks and holes after less than one year of use!! I'd prefer something with a little more life span than that.

I recd. mine yesterday and it looks very nice. It is a soft leather that easily slips down over the shift knob and clears the lockout levers. It has velcro and a leather drawstring to snug it aroung the shifter. I like the look as it matches my parking brake boot and ring.

The shifter boot arrived today...

Installation was pretty easy. Maybe 10 minutes to get it just right. I cut the old one off, as you can see. It looks SO much better than the rubber one.

Because of the Velcro fly, the boot slips right over the top of the shifter with ease. This picture shows the top with the cord already tightened. Just tuck the cord into the velcro opening...

...and the finished result looks great!

Total price to my door was about $30. Now comes the long-term durability testing. :D
