A local developer held a classy charity event, dubbed “Derby Days”, at his 500 acre ranch to view the Kentucky Derby yesterday. One of the many events was a car show, so the River City SAAC was asked if they had any members that would like to attend.

A day at a private estate, parked on lawn under the trees next to a lake, lots of people watching, incredible food, beer, wine….. well yeah, I guess I can make it [:P]

There were five of us from the club – two Uniques (mine and the one that was built on the DIY network), an ERA, a 289 slab side, and a Superformance. Lots of Ferrari’s, Lambo’s, Street Rods, and vintage autos (La Salle, Pierce Arrow, etc).

I immediately made a new friend :D

On the way home, out in the middle of no where, the ERA ran out of gas <img src=images/icon_speech_duh.gif border=0 width=23 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Duh!>(he’ll never hear the end of that). Bob, with the other Unique, was going to take him for gas when he discovered his car was DOA [xx(]

We took my car and picked up gas and a trailer, and finally one very hot afternoon came to an end. My wife and I got home about 7:30 PM (having left the house at 7:30 AM), tucked ‘ol reliable [^] in the garage, and reminisced about the days events. All-n-all, a great day [8D]

Phil said, "We took my car and picked up gas and a trailer."[:O] Wow, how'd ya mount the hitch on that sucker:D?

Did look like a very fun event.....are these cars great or what?

I went to a next-door neighbor's party today and pretty soon half the men in the group were in my garage, and ended up giving Cobra rides much of the afternoon. I just love watching the heads snap and wide eyes as we head through the gears.

The best one of the day was a young Naval Academy plebe that we've adopted in the neighborhood. He wants to fly F-14s or F-18s off carriers, and I watched him wide-eyed with a big grin on his face. When we got home and shut it down, and said, "holy .... now I know a little bit what that's gonna feel like when I catapult off the carrier."

Clay,

That's a good one, although you obviously haven't viewed Unique's website lately. They offer a new option for the 427 Roadster - a barden bumper and easy lift hitch. Alan sent me the proto-type to trial. Works great :D[}:)]:D

Here's a pic of the days winner - a 19-something-or-other La Salle. A beautiful car.

Yep Phil,....haven't logged on to the Unique site lately. Obviously I missed the new options.

Wow...that LaSalle is drop dead gorgeous!

Phil,

Our Derby Part was a little wet in case you didn't watch TV:(. Had about 1 1/2" of rain from 1 PM through 9 AM yesterday. It was only in the low 50's yesterday:(. Looks like a fun outing, guess the KY Derby has a following all over the country.
