It's another "Fun" Weekend:D but this time in Indiana. Were headed to the Indiana SAAC Regional Convention in Nashville, IN. Held at Brown County State Park about 90 miles North of Louisville, KY up I-65. I think they have close to 200 cars participating, alot of Mustangs I am sure and 3-4 original Cobra's[^]. We will see how the Unique stacks up against the other Replica's;). Post pictures and report on the Meet next week.

Rick have a safe trip. Driving or Trailering? From what I saw in Nashville TN last year at SAAC the, first originals I have ever seen, I was not impressed (of course these cars are 40 years old) but Ralph Long's look alike got it right when he said that he could not understand whay people are paying such outrageous prices for junk. I paraphrased it a bit but I think junk was used in the quote. Post pictures??

Well it was fun. The weather was warm but the breeze saved us. They had about 212 cars which 80% were Mustangs. Really well organized. Had Bob Wood from Cincinnati, OH as our guest speaker at the Award Banquet, he and 2 other associates own the Trademark GT40. His speech was on the GT40 history and how he acquired the name and all that has happened with Ford concerning their quest to build the GT40 again, now known as the Ford GT. His story is intresting, he has an original and supplies parts for all originals out of Cincinnati, OH. Bottom line is you can't belive what you read, Ford never made them an offer for the Trademark. They wanted the Trademark back for basically nothing. One of the 3 (427 side-oiler powered) GT40's that finished 1-2-3 in the LeMan's race sold for 9.5 million.
Anyway we did well in the Replica Cobra Class as we un-seated the 6 time 1st place winner who had the only other red car. The 3 originals were nice to see, one 289 slab side was pretty nice. The 427 SC #98 was well used, raced in Vintage Racing and put up "wet".

Congrats Rick, If I read your message right you got 1st place. Nice pics of #98. Is the red handle next to the shifter the fire extinquisher? I had never noticed the lip on the rear flare before either.

We did get 1st place, and I think the red handle is the fire extinquisher handle. Thank's Master.

Clay,

Only other ones are the GT40 which fall into Exotic Class along with the Pantera which is original. A bunch of nice original Sunbeam Tigers, powered by 260/289 engines. I guess they would put a Daytona Coupe in the Exotic Class also. So the Cobra was the biggest class of Replica's.

I think thats it, no other car had a 427 FE.
There were 427 Windsors, 428's, 460's, 351 W, and 302 engines.

I love the "Original Cobra" and the "Replica Cobra" placards for the different areas to park. Kind of reminds me of the segregated south in the 60's.:D

Well at least the judges did not rate the Shelby Series car better than Rick's 'cause of the name. Hats off to them.

When I built my car I usually had to make everything twice.:( The first piece was OK but I could always learn from my mistake and make another piece that was even better than the first.:D I guess that makes my car a replica made out of replicated parts.:D Each part better than the "original" part.[:O]

I just wish I had a "real1". :D:D:D:D

If you ever go to CC you will know who that is.

Went to Brown Co in 2000, and didn't care for the cool reception I got when I won 1st place with my Pantera (7 there that year) and haven't been back and no longer belong to their club. (a stuck-up bunch) Jerry

Yeah, we want pictures......

Ralph, SAAC being what it is, Shelby continuation series cars are not considered "replicas" but "real 1's." Thus, Rick didn't have an opportunity to compete against them. However, to their credit SAAC does distinguish between the originals and continuation Shelbys.

After I thought about it, Cheryl probably did not think about taking pictures while you were standing on the stage spraying champagne in the air and kissing Miss Indiana ( wearing nothing but that red ribbon ).

Brent

ps. Is that your secret change for Homecoming next year ? Miss Indiana standing next to your car in only a ribbon?
