What can you guys tell me about brakes on the 289 Unique. Over the weekend Robert who has a 289 came buy and we compared cars. The brakes on his stop a lot better than ours. Any suggestions on what I might look for? The brakes don't feel spongy like they have air, they just don't stop very well.

Another this I noticed was that his exhaust sits underneath the car a lot more than ours. Is there any way to change this?

First thing to check is the brake bias, which is adjusted by a bar on the pedal. It should be at least 2/3 toward the drivers outer wall, which means the bias is heavily on the front brakes. The second thing to check for is that your brake lines are insulated from the headers. If not, wrap them in foil-type insulation available at most auto supply stores on the web or racing oriented stores.

There's a lot of info on this site, including pictures. Do a search on Brakes or brake bias adjustment. You'll see exactly how to do it, as well as share in the experiences of many.
