Hi guys, Just wondering what fuel you would recommend for the unique when i take delivery in the next 10 days or so. The highest octane here in Vancouver is 94, i hope this will suffice. The car will be just for cruising on sunny days.
Thanks as always

I'm sure Gasman will weigh in here, but if I had access to 94 octane pump gas I would be on cloud 9 [:P] The highest you can buy at the pump in CA is 91... the motor runs, but not like it does with a 60/40 mix of 91/110.

You will be more than fine with 94 :) By the way how much is it a gal (or liter) U.S.?

hi, thanks for the response, we do have 94 here in town which is the only thing I use in my other car and I feel it makes a big difference. Pricing these day around a dollar a litre.
Thanks

BC, it depends on what the compression ratio your motor has. if its more than 9.5 to 1 to one you may need some extra octane or back off the timing to compensate. theres some cheap ways to get extra octane without going to race gas. try CC and search homemade octane boosters. later ,brian

Hi Brian, according to the seller it has 11:1 compression?

My BB is 10:1 and runs okay on 91. With 94 you should be okay, however, a little extra boost can't hurt (but probably not necessary). You will know soon enough ;)

BC, do you expect any problems getting the car in Canada, we have not been able to sell kits in Canada and were told replicas are not allowed in.

When Mike bought his kit it wasn't a problem now that we have NAFTA we can't sell in Canada. It will help if the car he bought is titled in the 60's, it will be interesting to see how they handle this.

Where are you getting 94 pump gas.?...Must be in Nelson...most things
are 'high' there. ( excuse us....Canadian Humour.)
The highest we have in Ontario is 91.
I run 87 Octane in my SC 427 which has a 302 Mustang engine.
Works for me.

I asume you have got the importation details sqaured away, otherwise
you would not have put your coin on the table for the kit.

When I brought my kit in thru Customs, I declared it as 'PARTS'
and paid the duty accordingly.

For registration I only had to get it thru the standard safety check,
the same as you would do for change of ownership.
Emmissions tests are not required for Kit Cars in Ontario.

The problem may be insurance....the 'Speciality' insurers can by law
only insure cars over 15 years old ( In Canada...don't know about the US)
When you go to register it they will probably give you a custom
'Re-built' number.....this number is keyed by the 'big machine' to
the year it is entered.....NOW...2004.
It's a problem.

Good luck with your new aquisition....any questions...send em in...
lots of talent on the forum to get good advice...(most of em anyway..
....Just kidding.)...You will love the car.
Mike

We just got a call from someone else in Canada that bought one of our used cars, we will be watching to see if there is a problem getting these cars across the border.

BC, Have you thought of applying for citizenship in the US? Your new car, assuming you get to fuel it in Canada should run fine on 94 octane. All kidding aside, GOOD LUCK!

Steve, perfect idea, im actually going to be in New York tomorrow so I will see if they will grant me special Unique citizenship, im sure it would easier than getting this car to Vancouver.

Bruce, what a disappointing complication. I hope you get it figured out.

Maybe Brent could take it apart for you, and put it back together north of the border. I've heard he gets bored from time-to-time. You'd just be importing car parts, right?

Vancouver is drop-dead gorgeous having been there several times, and it would be a better car once he got finished with it.

In all seriousness, I'm feeling your pain.
