My short block assembly is finished! :D The crankshaft had to be turned, Lewis wasn't happy with the bearing tolerance. The new Eldebrock heads are going on this afternoon. With a little luck, I'll be going to McDonough next Tuesday to pick up the finished product. It won't be long now.

Steve - Congrats! I talked to Susan on Wednesday and latest update was my engine is done and just completing some finishing touches. I think one of my original oil lines was not long enough for the remote oil filter and oil cooler. Rain rain, go away ... I want to pick up my cobra!

Patrija, Do you need my enclosed trailer to pick up your car? The rain isn't going away any time soon.

Steve, thanks for the offer. I think I'll either try to get it Saturday if Bill/Susan are around or end up picking it up next week.

Bill has my motor ready. He is going to run it in tomorrow on a motor stand and if all goes well, I'll pick it up Friday and crusing by the weekend.

How in the world are you going to pick it up Friday and be cruising by the weekend. You must have paid Brian extra!!!

Patrick, you can appreciate how excited I am to see what is going on with this motor after weeks of anticipation. I'll be there tomorrow morning but thanks for posting the pics. Looks good except for the PCV valve. I gotta ask Bill why he uses those, I don't get it.

I hate to comment on other peoples "stuff" but I would sure look hard at replacing that starter [V]with a mini hi-torque before it went in my car. My 2 cents worth.

STEVE, THE PCV VALVE IS O.K. IF YOU HAVE BAFFLES IN YOUR VALVE COVERS. IF NOT I WOULD USE ELIMINATORS FIX FROM A PREVIOUS POST. MY TWO CENTS WORTH.:)

Steve, I agree with Rick on the high torque mini-starter. Heat soak is always a problem with the standard Ford unit (Same with Chevy--I went through 3 on the 69 Camaro). The mini cured that problem. Summit can get you one overnight.

Is this the one you guys are talking about:

http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=110&Ntk=KeywordSearch&Ntt=fe+starter

If I have troubles with the starter on my new engine, this might be a good option.

clayfoushee
September 24th, 2004, 01:27 PM
That's it, 4K miles on mine with no issues, no slow starts, or worse. The orig. failed after 2K. If the engine's out, do it then. If the engine's already in, you can wait until the stock starter fails....it will.;)

Hey Steve,

How about an update on the new motor. The pics look great and this thing should be a monster in the car. The heads should be a real improvement along with some new found compression.

It is still hard to believe Bill stood behind his motor years later. Hats off to Bill.

Not much to update, I delivered the rebuilt motor to the shop installing it 15 days ago. It is still sitting exactly where I left it. This is frustrating, the weather here is perfect to enjoy the car. Rick and Clay, I did order the powermaster mini starter.

Steve, that really sucks:(. I will try and shame Brian if you want me to. I can call him Monday. I really thought he would have gotten moving by now.

John, Thanks, but I think he is applying enough shame to the way he feels. More will speed the job but quality is more important.

And yes, the plumbing on the remote fill tank is wrong when taking this picture. The guys in the shop were scratching their heads on that one.

Thanks Brent! We are fortunate to have warm days left in this part of the country. Warm days and cool nights in a hot car, that does sound like fun. Thinking back, I've had this car since February and it has NEVER been right, I am looking forward to finding out just how much fun they can be.

Break those new rings right. The first 300 miles are the most important.
