OK, all these new motor posts - I couldn't resist giving an update. Mine is complete and just waiting for final pickup. I'm betting it's going to be a torque monster! I don't have all the details yet or honestly figured out the benefits of each part, but here's a start...

Take a Southern Automotive 406 (390 long block) and mix in:

- roller rocker arms with end stands
- Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads with larger valves
- crankshaft windage tray
- aluminum water pump
- billet aluminum water pump and crankshaft pulleys
- aluminum remote oil filter adapter w/ steel bracket
- Victor Jr. intake
- 750 cfm double pumper carb
- Scat 4.250" stroke crankshaft
- Scat H beam competition rods
- custom pistons

Rain, rain ... GO AWAY! I want to drive! :D

Talked to Bill, car will be ready next week. My oil cooler was never hooked up and having to hook that up. A couple more engine details:

- 452 Cubic Inches
- Should be 500-510 HP

He said he's ready to take calls and questions on it.

Talked to Southern Automotive again today. Everything's setup and running good, but carb was dumping too much gas during a test drive today. Going to try to rejet the carb or start over with a different carb. Rain's gone away ... beautiful weather is here ... and it's time to drive! Hopefully later this week...

Talked to Susan today ... car is READY!!! Plan to pick up tomorrow and will post pics.

Today was a good news, bad news day. Good news is that I got down to Southern Automotive and the new motor not only looks and sounds awesome, but it is MUCH stronger than my "old" 406. The engine's running about 9.8:1 compression, so it can still run 93 octane.

On the first drive, the fuel hose to the gas tank must have been short or possibly shrank over the years, and it popped off the tank during a refuel ending up in gallons of gas on the ground. If you haven't cheecked your hose recently, please do! Once the gas was cleaned up, Bill took a drive and the engine was running rich so they rejetted the carb and replaced the plugs. On my last test drive of the day, the car ran great! Coming from the 406, some surprises to me were: (1) the slight "hesititation" and great kick in the pants when the mechanical secondaries open, (2) a big increase in low end torque, balanced by (3) a great power curve starting around 3000rpm fromt the victor jr high intake. Southern Automotive built the beast I was looking for from a 390 block. There are a couple more kinks to work out, so I should have the car next week.

While there, I took pics of gasman's motor (posted in his gallery) and the following two pics. First is of Bill's Falcon which is getting a new rear end and second is of the new engine sans valvecover while doing some diagnosis.

Just talked to Susan at SAE, engine run-in and test drives are complete and should be delivered tomorrow! Pictures to follow when it gets here.

Bill brought the car up himself on Friday ... in Atlanta rush hour. Now THAT is customer service far beyond expectation. Here are the pics, ignore all the wiring ... that's my winter project.
