Al, why don't you measure your own car? I would guess they're the same as the 427's--13Ft.

That would seem like the obvious solution and answer to my question.

Car is not available at the moment sooooo, does anyone know the EXACT length of the Unique FIA model? quick jacks front and rear...

Al,
If you do not get a reply before tonight, I will measure ours in the garage. The quick jacks are off while we are working on it, but I can bolt them on easily. Do you want the measurement with the quick jacks turned in (true FIA style) or turned out?

Bill,

True FIA style.....

Car is in shop at Jaguar for some alignment work...
Building a new home and am adding some additional sq. ft. to garage and the builder wants some figures.- going to put car on dollies for the winter and tuck it away in its own little space.
Clay makes it at thirteen feet and that may be close enough but we're building on a very small lot.

Al, sorry, didn't mean to found flippant. But, since the frames of all Unique cars are the same, 13Ft, is gonna be within and inch or two. Obviously, you want to plan a little extra maneuvering room. The main difference is in the shape of the body, fenders and door cut-outs.

Al,
Unique's FIA is 13'1 1/2" The nose stickes out past the jack bars

Al,
I just measured the car as follows: from the 5/16" bolt heads (furthest point aft), to the middle of the top of the nose opening, furthest point forward, I have 12' 10 1/2". I realize that this is 3" different than Poorboy's and was done by using a framers square on the garage floor and marking the first point of contact of the points described above, and then measuring between the points. My confidence level with this is +/- 1/8". When we bought our car(the ledgenary 'Spence' car) the quick jacks were reversed. I turned them around to the FIA standard and performed the measurements. This car is a 1991 frame, and like me, may be growing smaller with time. I hope this helps, let me know if you need any other information.

Bill, knowing your precision, I'm sure it's precise beyond belief!!!!!!!!! I just hope Al doesn't design his "cubby hole" to the exact measurements.....:D

I'm in awe of what you and Brian are doing to that car!

Kind of a silly question, I'd hate to see a garage built to store the car within the tight confines described herein. One would assume you want the ability to walk around the car in the storage space being planned.

Clay,
Thanks for your confidence in in my measureing ability, but I was trying to sneak back in here and edit my reply before anyone read it, but to no avail. When we measured, we had one end of the tape on the wrong side of the 1" tape line on the floor and hence came up 1" short. The actual length is 12' 11 1/2". Sorry, Al, I hope you didn't go to far with my wrong info. These things are fun to work on, but with this group constantly finding new things to enhance their cars, and raise the bar for quality expectations, our list keeps getting longer instead of shorter.

Bill, OK so it's 13 ft..give or take an inch or two. I hope Al, designs in at least 13.5 to his cubby hole.

Steve, scroll up.........he's just designing a cubby hole within his garage.

Al,
Be sure to post the pics of your idea. When we get the car done, we hope to do something similar to get a drift boat and cobra in one stall of a 3 car garage and get the family cars back inside.

Bill, If garage height is not an issue, you might consider the four post lift which would allow you to stack. I'm sure you already thought of this.....

Don't you guys drive your cars in the winter on those 30 degree sunny and dry road days? I lived up around Chicago for a bunch of years so I know you have those kind of days some of those days are even in the 40's. The car needs to be driven at least once a month, if not for the seals for your sanity.:D I driven mine in the low 30's down here as far as 30 miles 50-60 mph (no roof or side curtains.) The car churns out lots of heat and you are well protected you ought to give it a try -- heck you may like it. :D

Ralph,

Once the salt hits the streets I'm pretty much done... I don't mind the cold but that darn salt they pitch all over the place is a killer.
It's like driving it in saltwater... :(

Clay what a great link looks like y'all had a great tie would have loved to be there!! Al I understand the salt thing. I could say I was pulling your chains (pun intended). Would really hurt to put Lil' Cobra up for the winter.

Best to you...

Al, you're right. In all honesty, once the first big snowstorm hits, we have to wait until it warms up a little with a rainstorm to wash all that crap off the streets. Last year it didn't happen until Feb. And you're also a little further north. When I lived in MN, the salt was there from Dec. through May.
