What is everyone using for safety belts? Does the Unique DP come with these or are they an option? My old kit used the Simpson 5 point harness. Also are they able to be mounted to the frame and is this the stock mounting location? Thanks, G.

Belts are mounted directly to the frame -- Unique does use the 5pt harness.

I'm not racing the car (yet :D), but discovered these 5-points have an expiration date that you need to be aware of if you are going to race. Not much of a life span as I recall (1-2 years.... I think).

When I got my Kit in 2000 the 5 point belts I got from Unique were not Simpson. So I passed them back to Alan and Maurice and ordered Simpson 5 point harnesses. I don't know what they provide on current Kits, if you want 5 point belts == which you should use--you may want to check with the Weavers if you have a preference as I did.

Simpson is just being careful since Earnhardt died at Daytona. One of his harnesses was alleged to have been cut through. In street use, I don't think the expiration date is much of an issue.

I got mine from Maurice & Allan - they sell Crow Enterprises rigs.

The dates on the belts are for race certification, and yes, there is a time period they are useable. But you can be pretty sure your state DMV doesn't have any issue with how old your belts might be; some don't have any problem if you don't even have 'em.

By the way, that sub(marine) belt is a pain to use.....a real pain if it should ever come INTO use...[:P]

Get the 5 point belts....whatever brand...AND USE THEM.
I was at the Unique open house some years back when a guy got killed
in his 427....on the Gadsden bridge....because HE WAS NOT wearing his
belts.....'it was just a short ride from the hotel to the Unique shop'.

I have Deist six point. A little more expensive then most but very nice belts. Six point is preferable to five point. They have a nice re-webbing service as well. $50 a set and good turn around. Every two years for competition.
