I've got an 2002 FIA with a SA 396 Stroker, 460 plus HP and a Pioneer diaphragm clutch. When I moderately run up to 4,000 rpm in first, then change to 2nd and let clutch out all the way and get on it up to 5500 rpm, I get the sensation something is slipping. Either the clutch or wheels. Go to third and same thing. For some reason, I think it's the clutch slipping. Have any of you guys experienced the same feeling?

Yep - It was the clutch[V] I had the same setup you have.

I now have a ram street / strip setup and it bites like a pitbull. The pedal is a bit heavy but it works.

That Pioneer clutch is a great choice for a stock rebuild. Not for a HOT ROD. I have nothing against a diaphram but I do prefer a long style clutch.

Just my .02 worth

What model or pressure of Ram clutch did you get and any reason for selecting a Ram? Did you replace it yourself?

Bob,

I'm not sure about the part number. SA replaced the clutch while they were doing a few other things for me. Give Susan or Bill a call and they can fill you in on what they did.

Several of us, here in the Atlanta area, had SA replace our clutches - Tony Radford and Jason Patrick that I know of. Tony got a competition clutch installed and told me to drop down a notch which is what I told Bill to do.

I'll check my paperwork when I get home and see if it has any info on the part #.

Get the car up to about 2000rpm's in 4th gear and then floor it. If the clutch is slipping the rpm's will jump up faster like tire spin but won't because of the gear that you are in.

.....also, with tire spin the speedo will increase along with the tact. With clutch slipping, the speedo will not change, or not track evenly with the tach.

I'll try the flooring at 2000 rpms this weekend and see what happens. What are some good type of things to look for in a clutch like how much psi, what brand, three prong, etc.

I am running a McLeod (MCL 360825) clutch assembly and a McLeod (MCL 260863) Clutch disk. I have experience no problems instant engagement when I want it and smooth transition when I want it. I am running a 428 and a 3:31 Dana limited slip. I am also using a hydraulic throwout bearing McLeod (MCL 16001 {1 3/8"})
