Has anyone tried to put a Superformance seat into a Unique? Will it fit? Concerned about width at the base and at the door. Thanks!

Actually, I asked the same question the first time I saw a Superformance. They look like a bigger softer seat. And, I will have to admit, they felt better on my OML (outer mold line).
Even though I have added some foam to the seat bottom and tilted the seat back with a 1 1/4 inch spacer it still feels like I am sitting on a piece of plywood after an hour or so.
I have actually thought of making a seat bottom to replace the plywood backing with a "formed" seat bottom that resembled the OML of my seat bottom. My wife seems to think we would not be able to afford enough fiberglass materials for this......... I believe she was refrencing my height to weight ratio and my current "under tall" status.

<img src=images/icon_speech_yeah.gif border=0 width=29 height=15 alt=Insert Speech Icon: Yeah!>, me too. :(

I've been hunting for seats on & off for the past year. Have narrowed it down to some Corbeau's, which have proven impossible to get. Lone Star seats are mighty comfy, and available, so I'm a-thinkin that may be the way I go.

I have a feeling that the Superformance seats will prove out to be quite a bit too wide (more than 20") and won't go in.

9 hours out to London last year convinced me that masochism is for truly weird people. [:O]

Tracy Arrington has a very nice Unique 427 S/C car and had the orignal style metal frame seats with the web bottom installed in the car. They have the top grade leather and are black. The car has been garage kept and the seats have zero exposure to the sun and rain.
He advised me about 3 weeks ago that these seats are for sale, around $500.00 I think.
He will be at Homecoming and can be e-mailed through this site, look up Tracy Arrington in the members section. He has found another set of seats that are the same basically except they have more contour in the back of the seat area, close to the original seats. I have tried out his seats and they are very nice, comfortable.

Actually my seats just about kill my butt after a few hours, even when I use my carry on pad.

Got a post over on CC to see if someone can do measurements. The initial ones I have, but need to be confirmed are 18" on front floor and 22 1/2 at door.

I had the same problem, but found a pair of Backdraft seats that work great, and my back and butt are much more comfortable now. They have fiberglass buckets that are molded in the shape of a human touche, more or less (as opposed to a flat board. Finishline sells exactly the same seats in their catalog, but fair warning. They don't work for those broad of girth. I got mine from a BDR owner who was too wide for them.

We installed the original style seats into the Spence car. The fit is tight, no doubt, but they do fit...Barely. I have some shots at home that I can post. On the inboard side we have about 1" or less to the tunnel, then the seat is still within 1/2" of the countour of the cockpit where the doors curve into the rear deck. Our seats are also a good 6" taller than the standard Unique seats. Compared to seeing the standard fare, it looks like we put an overstuffed couch into our car! Although we haven't been out driving, our seats have several hours of garage time and they are more comfortable than any car I have driven.

Clay - I've heard that about the Backdraft seats. I was going to buy a pair that was for sale on CC until I was told that they max out at about a 36" waist. I'm 34" but need room to grow! :D

I took my pass side seat and replaced the rear portion 2" yellow foam with a piece of 3" white 59 lbs high density foam. It really keeps your butt off the plywood. One problem I had were the screws that attach the cushion were right where my tail bone was. Use shorter screws or move them.

Yeah, I have the tempurpedic foam in mine and it's definitely much better ... but after 2 hours or so it still feels like i'm sitting on a board.

Yes, they do fit and are quite comfortable. I put a pair of Superformance seats in my Unique about 3 years ago and I am very satisfied with them. The price was reasonable and the quality is very good. They provide good support and are much more comfortable than the fiberglass seats were.

Pete - Thanks. Do you know if you have the "new" model seats with the webbing? I think it changed to from fiberglass(?) to webbing with the MKIII, but not sure if the seat dimensions changed.

I overstuffed the original seats with Tempur as well, and it as an improvement, but after some point it compressed and I was still sitting on a flat piece of particle board. The seat really does need to be formed or with springs as opposed to flat.

I used to own a Superformance and remember them being very comfortable for about four hours. They get a bit uncomfortable after a few more hours on them though. They are leather and offer good lumbar support. I may look into them after I own my Unique a while.

Just my two educated cents.

I just stuffed mine up last weekend. Big improvement. Although my upholstery leaves a lot to be desired. I want to get them covered in leather eventually and I am still playing with them so I am not to concerned about it yet.

The problem with readily available tempur, visco elastic or memory foam is that it is to soft. Made for you head, not your a$$!

I have not been on a long trip yet, so when I see you at the homecoming I will tell you how it turned out.

First cut is (all high density foam):
- 1/2" of 120IFD
- 1" of 50-60IFD
- 1" of 35IFD Visco
- 1" of 26IFD Visco
- 1/2" of 15IFD Visco on top

Put the cover back on and stood on the whole thing to staple it down. Plump but not pregnant in appearence.

For the seat back, it wasn't all that bad so:
- I place a 1" thick, about 6" tall piece of 35 visco over which I put a 10-12" tall layer of 26 visco in the lumbar area. Each piece runs to the 'wings' left and right. I found there was a fair amount of room in the side bolsters. So I stuffed some 26 visco into the side bolsters that 'widens' the seat and comes in a bit on the side to hold and support a little better.

I can't wait to try them out!

Got the following measurements. My car's getting a "check up", so haven't checked yet to see if they'd actually fit.

The mount bolt pattern is 9.5 wide x 11 long. The front of the seat begins 2. in front of the front mount studs, it's 7.5 high at that point. the bottom back of the seat is 22. from the front. The top back of the seat is 22. up. The widest part of the seat is 20.5.

Yes, I do have the seats with the webbing but as I said they are two to three years old. I don't know if they have changed any since then, I'm sure a Superformance dealer could help you with that. I can tell you that they fit with room to spare.
