Awesome. I love the look of the Ford GT. Great pictures too, they allow all of us to relate to the proportions of the car given the 'known' Cobra right next to it. Seeing the GT roofline at or below the top of the Cobra windscreen gives me lots of respect for those original GT drivers whose cars were 3" shorter than the current GT.

So here's the million dollar question...No doubt the Ford GT smokes the Cobra on top end, but which feels quicker down low? Give us all the virtual ride Spd! I'm not sure I'll get any seat time in one of those!

The only seat time I got was just that, sit and look. With a six speed it's first is lower so he can generate more smoke. It has a 550 HP supercharged 5.2 (335 c.i.), 10.9:1 compression, how may valves, he didn't know and a 3:01 rear end. He said the fastest he's gone in town is 140 mph and was really scary because of the small steering wheel. Said the slightest movement or bump realy jerked car around. Because it's so low, it would take some getting use to looking out windows. He wouldn't let me drive because he's selling and doesn't have insurance or tag. I think any of us Cobra guys could stay with him up to 120 mph. 6th gear and he's gone. He called 200 dealers before he found one that could get it. Ford says they plan to make only 3500 in next two years and stop production. They probably won't make that many. Retail sticker is $165,000.

OK....OK.....OK......I have to ask this question even though I know the answer. Does your friend have way more money than sense?????

140 MPH in town and he has no insurance on a $260,000.00 car. Must be nice to be that rich without a brain.

He also has a 68? Roadrunner with a 426 Hemi but his house is so small he has to park them somewhere else. You have to give him alittle credit for flipping it and making a $35,000. profit in a weeks time. By the way, it's only 500 HP, dual overhead cam, 4 valves.

Can you only imagine what the cop pulling him over would have said. :) If your buddy wants to be bold twice, there is one available through our local dealer, red with white stripes that can be bought for 228K.

I'm not sure but I think if you get caught doing over 100 or 120 mph in Alabama you loose your license for 12 months. If you get caught racing with someone you can get up to 2 years jail time.

The engine is 5.4 liters and 550hp. When Ford built the first 5 test cars and said that they were indeed going to put them into produce them, they said it would be 500hp. And that's the information that all the magazines put out. When the cars were actually in production and tested on the track at just a little over 211mph, they said that they were raising the horsepower spec to 550hp. They also limited the production cars to 205mph top speed. In a recent Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords article, they were playing with a new GT in the 1/4 mile. They were able to get the car into the 10 second range with a set of slicks and a pulley change on the blower to raise the boost a little. They beleived that they could've got the thing into the tens without the slicks. But they fried the clutch after about 40 passes. Best time was 10.92@132mph. Not very many cobras would want to play with that car in a race. Even though not many people could ever own one, including me, I'm still glad they built it. They have produced a car for all the other car companies to chase after. As far as real production car, NOTHING can touch it on the track, not the Ferrari,Porsche,Lambos,Vipers or Vettes. In an actual test on a race track, the GT beat a 650hp. twin turbo, 4 wheel drive Porche by 2 seconds. Awesome!!

Very true!!

I just wish Ford could build a "vette" or a "viper" price range car. Why can they play with 50-70K and we have to spend 260K????

Oh well.....Thanks for the Cobra!

I'll never pay the price for a Ford GT, although I lust after it too. I think Brent is dead right, I've always thought Ford is missing the boat by not making Corvette-type car in the same price range, which these days is nearly a supercar.

Plus I don't think these two look bad together at all

Clay,
How is the '69 Mach one coming along? Do you know about the Pony & Corral in Oxon Hill, MD.? It's a parts place for Classic Mustangs.301-839-6666 talk to Bill Ross he lives in Annapolis could bring you parts on the way home if he has it and you need it right away. He also has parts cars. Tony, the Mach 1 is at a dead standstill. The car is home and under a cover. The suspension, trannie, rear-end are all now taken care of, but the engine is questionable, and seems to have a vibration issue, perhaps internal. And, it's got some electrical issues. I just don't have the knowledge or time to tear into it.

Unfortunately (for my mental health) but fortunately (for my bank account), I'm working my butt off again.

P.S. yes, I've heard of Classic Mustangs, and the last time I bought something off a Snap-On truck, I had sticker shock. Craftsman is about all a mechanical idiot like me can handle anyway.

Clay,

If you need help with the electrical on the Mach 1 I can help.Maybe we could set a day for trouble shooting the wiring problem. And maybe take a look at the engine vibration too. I know you are busy at work but is there a sign of some relief in the near future or are they going to work you until you become ill and are unable to carry on?

Tony, that's an incredible offer, and I will take you up on it. Hopefully, I'll have some breathing room in a couple of months.

What are you doing Sunday?
