Just a few notes. Fitting a few things and started taking the car apart.
Found a neat little home made scribe from Unique when I pulled a headlight out.It is made from a coathanger on a grinder. Used it to mark the fender to mount the side mirror. I was wondering how they marked the E-brake location so precisely. Works like a champ.I love everything so far. Painter came by to look at Car and was impressed with the finish on the body. Woke up at 3:30 AM this morning and started working on the car before work. Won't do that again tomorrow.[xx(]

Been busy.
Car is stripped and Body is on the body buck. Man the chassie is beautiful!:D
I undercoated the body Sunday and will be drilling all holes for wiring harness today. Car is being painted black so I am not worried about any overspray.
Remind me again why we should undercoat![xx(]
Then body will go out to the paint shop Wednesday.
Trans is out so I can measure for Hyd. T.O. bearing.
Drive shaft loop installed. I installed this before I pulled the tranny. I was able to get the driveshaft out without removing the loop.[^]
Body buck is very stable.
Body buck outer frame rail should have been an 1 1/2 wider to clear dropped foot box. But with a sawzall promblem was rectified.

Wow Tony.........making fast progress.

I'd hoped to get over there today, but I can't due to a conflict.

Since you aren't doing it in copper, maybe you should do it in the same color as the Jeep ;)!

Nice photos of the build. Keep 'em coming :D:D. You mention in the other thread on "Realization - rubber is not forever" that you are running 295s in the back. Please let's see some photos of them. Also, what size up front?

Good progress!

Wrong Tony, Paul. That was Tony Radford with the tire questions. Tony Naumoff just picked up his new deluxe pallet last weekend.

Wait a minute... will the real Tony the Tire please stand up [:o)]?

Clay,

I was refering to the response Tony Naumoff wrote to the questions Tony Radford posted in that thread [8D]. Tony Naumoff said he ordered tires from Tire Rack that are 295/50-15 for the rear. I am thinking of using 295s in the back of mine... eventually, when it becomes more than just a virtual 289 [:O]!

Bring on the pictures Tony... uuhhh, Tony Naumoff ;).

Yes I stated I purchased some 295/50/15 and they fit good. 235/60/15 on the front.

Drilled alot of hole in body today. Fiberglass in my arms does not feel good. Reminds me of crawling around in an attic.[xx(]
Drilled and tapped hole for toneau cover. used a tap because the fiberglass is so tough it was breaking screws.

Worked a little on engine. Started to run oil lines. Figuring out where to drill holes for the wiring in the body in relation to the chassie. Can anyone geuss what's different about this picture.

Clay, Sorry you couldn't make it down today.I needed to look at your wiring. I found and old post of yours with a view of the engine compartment. So thanks.

Paul...or anyone else looking to put 295's on the back end.

The rim MUST have a 5 1/2 inch back space or the tire will
rub on the wheel arch when you corner or hit a bump, especially
when you also have a full tank and two in the cockpit.

You can go up to a 265 on the front with a 3 1/2 inch back space
rim without any problem....it actually fills the wheel arch
quite nicely.

The dash braces are one of those things you see on all of the originals, and ERA's, and maybe some others. I always wondered why the Unique's don't have them. Seems like a simple part to replicate.

Brent is Correct. Dash Braces are 1/2" Conduit which I will be using to run some wiring through. So I drilled holes in the tunnel and made a brace out of a piece of 1" flat metal and drilled holes for the top of the conduit then secured it to the bottom dash supports. Had to bend it down to go under speedometer. I will Cualk or glass it to the tunnel.
Looking at Photos and measuring and trying to get the angles to look right was time consuming but I think they look pretty good.
I found out that the Speedos are not in the center of the Cobra dash.
Would not have thought twice about it but for looking at so many pictures.
http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/Naumoff/Unique Build 30 May 2005 006edit.JPG

They probably don't put them in because they are not necessary on the Uniques and will probably get in the way. But pulling the dash is not that big of a deal. I just like the look.
Thanks Juan. I am loosing sleep over thinking about what to do next
on the build. Just ordered my T.O. Bearing from McLeod.
Body won't go to paint shop til Sunday.[xx(] Hopefully will get it back in two weeks. Painter said I could help. He is a customer of mine and has an awesome shop at his home 15 minutes from my house.:D
I do want to get the Cobra on the road by the end of July. I want to work out the bugs in the hottest month.

The dash braces are cool! Hate to think about getting the carpet around them.....

Naumoff
June 1st, 2005, 03:58 AM
Kelly, I already thought of that. I can do the same as others with braces, Cut the carpet and glue it down.I don't think it is going to be a big deal.
Since I had to wait longer to take the body to paint, I went ahead and put the wiring harness in last night. I will just bag the ends of the exposed wires to keep them from getting overspray on them.

Braces work good to run wiring under car. I might have to extend Battery wire to the alternator, looks like it might be a little short.

http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/Naumoff/Unique Build 31May 2005 001edit.JPG

The exposed wires inside of car are for the MSD unit and oil and water temp sensors

http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/Naumoff/Unique Build 31May 2005 012edit.JPG

Conduit puts the rear harness futher down the tunnel I might pull back the alt. & starter solenoid wires and run them another way

Don't make the mistake of setting a deadline for getting the car on the road[B)][B)].
You will live to regret it 10 times over.
Ask anyone who has done that.
Somethings can't be redone once you screw them up:(.
Other items take four times as long to fix once you head down the wrong path.
Be patient, think about what you would like to have, then
dedicate the time to do it "RIGHT" the first time.
In the long run you will be more satisfied with your car;).

Rick,
Thanks for the input. I set deadlines for myself because I work better under pressure. It keeps me focused. I am a contractor and that is when I due my best. I don't feel that I am rushing the project. I just work steady.
Ask Clay.
Alan,
Painter didn't have a problem with the undercoating or wiring of the car first. The biggest thing I can see is the dash wiring and all that can be taped off. I have nothing in the engine compartment or any place else that will be painted. I can put the ends of the harness in sandwich bags and tape up.

Thanks Tony

Not much to report.
Been working on some details. Lining up a powder coater. Wiring for the voltage regulator. Putting a tap in the upper radiator tube for the SPAL fan thermo switch. Took body to paint shop.

http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/Naumoff/Unique Build 5 June 2005 011edit.JPG
when I put the body back on the chassie I can finish the harness for the V.R.

http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/Naumoff/Unique Build 5 June 2005 006edit_edited.JPG
This piece will be powder coated and the tap will face down, Keeping the wiring short and less noticable.

http://www.uniquecobra.com/uploaded/Naumoff/Unique Build 5 June 2005 009edit.JPG
Off to the Bodyshop

Waiting now for some parts and the T.O. bearing. I will make up the radiator hoses. Take stuff to the powder coater. Set the toe a little closer so it will be easier to push. stuff like that.

Build is fun. I am enjoying myself so far. [^]
