expansion tank fit

attached is an expansion tank i got from rick bagley. before i paint it, will it fit under the unique hood with a standard fe motor mounting or does it need to be modified? is high temp gloss black the way to go?

It does not have to be modified...[^]just paint it and bolt it on with a 180 degree thermostat.
Gloss or semi-gloss engine paint will work fine as the tank will get up to the 220-240 degree area.

I think the Superformance cars have the motor mounted really high and the standard expansion tank has to be modified. Our cars are just fine. Must be an African thing (-:

No mods. Mine was on before I pulled the body off. High temp paint is good. Brass is funny about paint sticking to it make sure you get all your oily fingerprints off of it first.

Are you going to straighten up the bracket before you paint?

do you mean re-braze bracket to make it parallel to the tank seam? will tank sit cock-eyed if i leave it alone?

Yes it will sit cock-eyed. And it's not brazed, just soft soldered.
Its common for them to come loose. 40 years of Mechanics leaning on them.
Trick is to get the tank clean in that area and not to get the tank to hot or the lead will come out where the tank is put together.
Use Utility brand flux and 50/50 solder
I'm a plumber so it was not very intimidating to me. Plus I have all the stuff to do it.
Or you might see if the radiator shop can do it for you.

thanks for the advice. at this point i might as well hold off painting and rework until i can see how it sits on the engine. the front of the bracket is dead straight to the seam so i don't want to start twisting until i can see what's what. jim

Good ideal. If it is not loose then I would do the same.
No use messing with it if it looks fine when installed on the engine.
