View Full Version : Installing a New Gas Tank

Just received my replacement gas tank. The original was leaking around the fuel line pick up fitting, a brass one that the previous owner apparently put a bead of weld around. The weld became porous and started to flow.

I am looking for recommendations on any pointers to make the installation a good, long term, solid one.

-looking for a steel or stainless steel fitting.
-using Permatex Aviation Sealer #3 gasket maker liquid
to coat the threads. My mechanic had recommended thread tape
but I saw the Permetex Aviation sealer on earlier Forum threads.

Does it make any sense to use some of the "bedliner" spray on or roll on material on the bottom and rear of the tank for some vibration / fracture / weld protection? Any other recommendations?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick,

I used the Permatex Aviation Sealer on the threads, on the filler hose, as well as the fuel sensor. I have not had any issues. It can't hurt to putting something under the tank to absorb shock - maybe small rubber bumpers on all four corners.
Good look!
