hi, i am installing my clutch line and trying to decide if i should reroute all lines. i searched archives and i like brent's setup through the footboxes but does anyone have photos of set-ups outside the footbox? the present set-up looks awfully close to the headers. should i just wrap them? what are your experiences? jim o.

Jim,

Absolutely - wrap them!!! I ran mine on the outside of the footbox as well. Didn't know there was any other option until Brent introduced the idea of running them up and through the footbox. If I had it to do over, I would go that route.... too late now. If I ever have to rip out the carpeting that will be the when it gets changed.

Although I have never had a problem (knock on wood). The lines are all insulated with reflective sleeve material, I fab'd a heat shield to protect the master cylinders, and my clutch slave and started are wrapped with hi-temp reflective material.

Here is a photo of my setup. Good luck!

jim , i replaced my lines braided stainless and aeroquip fittings and rerouted the rear brake and clutch line over the footbox as part of my build. ive seen acouple guys have good luck with just using an insulation thats a sleeve that fits over the line. probably easier going that route at this point in your build. later, brian.

I did mine through the footbox

It was actually pretty simple - followed Brent's diagram but I decided to go with the hardline over the top of the footbox rather than the flex through it instead of flex.

70 inch piece would have been perfect for the rear brakes - could have saved me one small piece - 60 inch was fine for the clutch - probably even less for the front line (which I wrapped).

I went with the heat shield under the master's as well.

Fun little project - lines, bender, flange maker - pretty easy.

dave, are you saying that you went straight back to the firewall on the outside top of the footbox and then entered the interior? if so, could you have stayed on the outside and gone down the transmission tunnel also on the outside? jim

Jim,
I rerouted mine up and over the footbox, then down through the tunnel.

I did go back to the firewall then through the interior at the corner of the footbox and firewall rather than down the transmission tunnel.

I figured that I was going through the interior for the rear brake line anyway so putting the clutch line through as well was no big deal. The thing I took from Brent was to put the lines behind the heat shield. I thought going through just to the right of the driver knee would give similar benefits to Brent's flex line approach and let me use the hard lines.

I still haven't put the interior carpet in yet so let me know if you want more pictures.

I wrapped mine with header wrap and ran them in the same place.
I am going to make a heatshield for the master cylinders.
I also used Wilwood 570 DOT 3 High temp hydraulic fluid.

Tony, I would suggest a heat deflector plate under the M-cylinders I actually built an insulated box for mine. Just a suggestion...
