Yes, but why, when you can replace the seal just by pulling the drive shaft.

Yes, you can replace the seal by just removing the drive shaft. However, something caused the seal to fail. I replaced my leaking seal only to have it fail again.
In my case the tail shaft bushing was loose in the housing and had moved toward the front of the car and was floating loose on the output shaft. You can get the housing out with the trans in the car (top loader) it is not easy but it can be done. I used a Lock-Tite product to hold the new bushing in place. I believe it was green in color, and I had to bake the tail shaft in the oven to cure it. I got it from a local engine machine shop it is the same thing that engine machine shops use on cylinder sleeves. I replaced the driveshaft yoke at the same time (the bushing and the yoke were from David Kee).
