The organizers of WSCB scheduled a track day at Fernley Raceway this past Friday. Sixty owners were able to run hot laps after some schooling and signing every conceivable waiver known to mankind. I got in about fifteen laps and enjoyed every minute of it. I now have an appreciation of how hard it is to effectively drive on a road course (too many turns ... too little time!). It's the first time I really pushed my car and I was generally pleased with how it handled. My biggest challenge on the course was staying in the throttle coming down the long straight a way that exited into an S turn. I kept picturing myself sliding off the track. Each lap I would accelerate a bit longer but it wasn't until my final lap that I kept my foot into it until I felt real fear and went into the S turn at around 110. I luckily made it through the turn but I realized just how much faster you had to react to stay on line. It was a little spooky....

I did have one minor glitch; the locking ring that holds the steering column in place had worked it's way loose while I was driving and at the end of my final lap, the steering wheel telescoped out about two inches. Scared the daylights out of me since I thought the wheel was coming off! Fortunately, there was no danger and it was easily fixed (tighten set screw).

If you ever get the chance to take your car on a road course, I'd highly recommend it.

I'm glad you didn't have any problems on the track since you had to drive the car back to Washington, thats how the Nascar boys did it back in the day. I hope to make it to next years event, how many manufacturers displayed at the show?

Alan,

There were representatives from Kirkham, Backdraft, Superformance and Shelby there. There were also a bunch of suppliers such as FE Specialists, Serpent Express, and Vintage Wheels to name a few.

A surprising number of people inquired about my car; they were not many FIAs in attendence and several prospective Unique buyers were taking close looks.

Bob,

Did you have an opportunity to meet Phil Souza? Sorry we missed the event - I was registered, but we were in Oregon for the past 3-weeks enjoying the rain ;)

Phil,

I did indeed have the pleasure to meet Phil Souza in Reno and chat with him a bit. Nice fellow!
