Well, after a lot of research I bought a Unique 427SC with 427SO engine, top loader, Jag rear with 3.54 gears. Chassis number is 9009 which the Weavers tell me is one they built themselves in 1989 as a demo and didn't sell till 91. It started life with a 428 but then got a transplant in 1991 when it got the 427 from HESCO in Birmingham. This shop is owned by Lee Hurley who was the guy who built the engines for Bobby Allison while he was racing NASCAR. It seems that he knew what he was doing when he built it as it runs great 17 years later though it only has accumulated 4000 miles on the 427.

Compared to most of the kit Cobras out there the Unique are remarkably well designed and built. I have been going over the car to remedy a few issues but nothing major so far.

Is this the lowest chassis number of the group here?

Welcome to the Unique family.

Jim Harding has an older car and it still looks great.

I agree with you on the well engineering of the Unique . Very easy to work on and great quality. I was taking a closer look this year at ERA and I am very glad I bought a Unique instead.
ERA's are a real pain to work on.

Any pictures you can post of your car would be great

I looked up the chassis number of Jim's car, 9512, so how is this older than 9009? I had assumed that the lower the number the older the chassis.

Jim has 2 cars....I would guess that number is the newer 427 car. Since mine 4279405 was a 2002 car.

So when was the first Unique 427 built and sold and what chassis number was it?

First Unique sold in 1977 and I think the vin # was 7000, who knows where the car is today.

BTW, I posted some shots of my car in the Gallery. You can see a few differences from the later cars, particularly the radiator opening.
