opening holes in dashboard

has anybody open a hole in the dash without tearing up the vinyl cover if so how did you do this .

Use a step bit from the backside if possible, take your time and you should be OK.

I used a hole punch for making holes in gasket material to cut the vinyl, then used a drill for the fiberglass (turn the hole punch by hand to cut the vinyl). Worked great for me.
